Welcome to the site. You can build a nice "race" car with 10-15g's.... 1st or 2nd gen DSM, 240, Miata, Mk 3 Supra....
I suggest a 240 with suspension, wheels and tires. After you feel comfortable with the car swap in an sr or boost the ka. The engine/chassis is tough, reliable and the sr and ka make great hp. A couple of months ago I took my car out for a drive on Friday, drove it to Sebring on Saturday for a track event and then drove it to BMP on Sunday for a TR track event.

i found the best way to learn is to go to events and find friends who have the same interest
listen when they talk, read up about the particulars you are interested in and you hear about and then ask questions as you go along.
i always say do your own project, build a car that is you
 and welcome to TR
