got pulled over last night for my exhaust. i get a ticket, but not because of sound, only because its aftermarket. im sure this is old but unfortunetly i dont get on this site that often anymore. is there a law now that says u CANT have a aftermarket exhaust? that means every car with a non issued factory exhaust is driving around illegally? plz enlighten me, someone.

Yea im pretty sure thats right. I think i remeber reading in the new drivers handbook a few years ago that any modification whatsoever to the emissions system on a vehicle is illeagal. In fact, i think i remember reading that pretty much any performance or ride height modification is illeagal.

My friend got pulled over for the same reason, the cop was a little more leniant though. He gave my friend a notice that he 30 days to get a silencing tool on his exhuast, he had to go somewhere and show them it was quiter. I believe the law is if; your exhaust makes another noise (louder) then what the car's exhuast made from the factory it is illegal. You should be able to get a silencer, put it on, go to the traffic place- not sure where, and then after they see it take it off.. I can't believe cops don't have anything better to do with all the shit that goes on in these gd cities...

Same thing happened to me going north on dale mabry passing cheval. Cop told me it wasnt so much the sound because, he would have to prove it was above a certain decibal level. But he said he pulled me over because of the way it looked. He said if my car sounded the way it did but the exhaust looked stock he wouldnt have pulled me over because there might have been somthing wrong with my exhaust. So are there any performance systems out there that look close to stock?

10/10/06 This happened to me on Bearass near Haven (northdale area kinda)

Same thing. Not that its too loud, but its aftermarket. I actually just cut the check this morning for it and sealed the envelope for it. $76.50

It makes me want to sell my Invidia and get something more subtle in 3".

So, they could pull over hundreds of cars everyday that have aftermarket mufflers. Run the tags, licsenes, check insurance, and atleast issue them $76 citations. gayy

It is a fix it ticket. What i did was put my little silencer in and painted my muffler black with some cheap spray paint. The officer that inspected it passed it and only made me pay $1.50 in for the inspection service or something like that. Once i got home i used some Acetone and cleaned my Muffler off and removed the silencer.

Yeah I forgot what year either last year or 2004 they passed some law now about having a "modified" exhaust outside the factory complience. Before they were targeting more sound then anything but as soon as that law past people here and there have been getting the ticket from that one cop that just has nothing else to do then issue such a pety ticket.

The ticket you got is different then the one they issue for being too loud or sound being outside factory complience. Those you can put on a silencer and go to the LEA and have it dismissed or just pay a smaller fine like Amit stated.

I do notice its the same price as having an exhaust thats too loud though so it might fall into the same citation reference.

This happened to me on 11-12-05

This is retarted!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, I decided to go out for alittle drive. I go down Bearss Ave. and make a left onto Dale Mabry and see a cop behind me. Of course you always think "what did I do this time" well I didn't do anything. Wasn't speeding used my blinker and then I saw him fall way back and was behind some other cars so I figured ok good. Next thing I know he pulls up next to me at the light and points to my car. I didn't hear him at first cause of my music. So I turn it down to see what he said. He said "you know that's illegle (sp) right? I'm like huh?? What is? "your exhaust". I said "well it shouldn't be". He said "ok well i'm gonna pull you over and I'll show you. I was like he can't be serious!! So he pulls me over and said he could write me a ticket or teach me. So he brings out this HUGE law book and tells me to read part of it to him about any aftermarket exhaust. So I did. He gave me a warning this time. Dammit!! I got pulled over right near my house so he knows the area I live in. He said "there is no reason at all for it, it's just for noise. Unless you can give me another reason?" I just said "I don't want to get into that" haha. He said it has nothing to do with noise it's just not legal. I'm not taking it off!! I've driven by cops all the time and they don't pull me over. I've even gotten on it alittle with a cop a few lanes over. It's BULLS**T!! Oh by the way I have a 3" turbo back exhaust with test pipe. Ummmmm........ok that is all.

I've yet to get pulled over for it and all my cars have had aftermarket exhaust some didn't even had a catalytic converter they were replaced by a test pipe and I've passed LEO's all the time. I passed one just yesterday on I-4. He was actually getting on I-4... passed me... then I passed him and then he passed me lol. But yeah I haven't had any problems. Seems Dale Mabry is popular for these tickets.

I have heard of this happening on older cars alot. I have a friend who is a polk county officer and from what she had stated, they are looking for the early to late 90's vehicles that may have "modifications". Reason being is because they have Vehicle accident statistics that show the vehicles with certain "modifications" have been getting into more accidents. I told her that in my opinion, these accidents are caused by stupid people who think they can drive but that can't. The modifications have nothing to do with the accidents. She came back and said that since hillsborough county no longer has emmisions control, they can not stop people from performing any modifications to their cars which includes having those stupid drivers install them on their cars and begin their stupidity. She even stated that if you see for example a Z06 or other higher class sports car out on the road with some modifications such as a louder exhaust, that "most" cops will not pull them over due to their feeling that "statistically" they will be more careful on the road. Now I don't know about you guys, but how freaking fair is that? Basically, if you can afford a $30K - $50K sports car, you must be responsible enough to drive it so its OK to modify it. If you can't, be prepared to pay a fine for the modifications if a cop wants to pull you over because they might think you are in that stupid driver class.

what i use to do.. is that i'd drive with a silencer type of thing, that the megan tbe brought, and id just leave it in my trunk. and if i got pulled over, id just tell the cop that it snapped off, and im going to put it back on when i get hope. that i needs a special screw. ive that excuse over 10 times and worked perfectly.. but i have no idea what exhaust u have, nor if it brings this silencer.

What aftermarket exhaust systems look stock but still gives you the performance you want? I've yet to purchase an exhaust for the reason being a ticket that I don't need.

I got pulled over again last night near Bearss and Dale Mabry. Different cop, same issue. Not too lound, just illegal. He gave me a warning since I have gotten the ticket 2 weeks ago.

He said that the Northdale area cops are really cracking down b/c of people complaining about noise. And that its also a reason to check to make sure theres no alcohol/drugs

whats the e cut?

Ender.

whats the e cut?

An electronic cutout after the downpipe. It allows you to bolt it to the stock exhaust, but flip a switch and you can run open downpipe.

Any thing you do "aftermarket" to your car is illegal. And I mean anything. If it did not come from the factory then it's not ok. This would explain why the Lexis came out with clear tail lights in there SUV's. Most cops will not mess with you for the little stuff, but if they wanted to they could.
