The blue curve is 2 10's in a ported box. The red curve is the same 2 10's in my new, super box. And no, its not ported...
I might have it done by the next meet...

Ok, whats with this 'magic' box. Any specs on it?

Yep, there are specs :D
Toby
One of these days when i decide to stop being such a lazy bastard i'll make a box so powerful, 3 12" woofers would rival the power of the astros =X.

... its not sealed and it looks to have a narrow band of response so im gonna say a hybrid 4th order bandpass.

It is sealed, and where to you get narrow response? Its +/- 2 db from 35 to 90 hz. Not a 4th order, or bandpass...

hmm must be a special shape sealed box that has a higher output than a ported box.

I dont think its an elf, i think it uses 3 cups of magic beans.

I get the feeling its something obvious... but Im still curious.

Push pull?
Notladstyle
10-21-2006, 06:00 PM
+1 or diaphram?
TJElite
10-21-2006, 09:09 PM
nope and nope...isobaric (push pull) is not very efficient and if by diaphram, you mean aperodic membrane, its no better.
Isn't it great how sex words always work their way into audio...

Tube?

Tube?
that's what i was thinking too, only non-conventional sealed box i could think of off the top of my head. like one of those big cardboard tubes they use for construction
TJElite
10-22-2006, 03:39 PM
nope, nope, and nope...although I want to try the tube someday. The current world record holding pioneer truck (180 db) uses tubes.

Well, the least common one I've ever seen, but haven't seen it in years, is a Sphierical enclosure.

so i guess that's the $64,000 question... what the fuck is it?
Variable size box, changes shapes when you press certain key buttons to reduce/increase size depending on what frequency range your song mainly employs to complement and increase output.
:-o
If that isnt it and doesnt exist, im putting a patent on the idea and going to start designing it.
Eventually making it automatic.... mwahahahahha:lol:

if you can make a piston travel @ around the speed of sound to adjust for the notes in every song, then I wouldnt waste that on a box
You never know!!
but for now, just making it somewhat 'morphable', just to accomodate music types, rock vs rap, deep notes vs faster notes. etc

Not Ported, some kind of 'sealed' box. not bandpass...
WTF is it already? I mean, unless you're just bullshitting us, which not like you would ever do... cough cough, daltons 115db.

Damnit I did 128.

Make a larger box, with a tube port. Attach a servo control to swing a plug into the port to close it off. Or a screw on end cap, to make a large sealed to ported and vice vera.

Hey TJ how much would you charge to panel off my trunk, everything wrapped in vinyl and plexi over the amps?

that was my second patent

give him a call, he's more likely to respond better to that

TJElite... is that modeling tool including cabin loss\gain... if not... the real graphs that will tell the whole story should be before & after within the cabin...

There we go... im thinkin its an IB setup versus a sealed box.

Variable volume boxes, and switchable ported to sealed boxes, as well as movable ports to adjust tuning frequency have all been done.
But my box is none of the above...

Those are done without cabin gain thrown in, but since that's a function of frequency, it would effect both curves, equally (at least in a program, anyway).

Nope, did that already. It is definitely based on a sealed enclosure.
I'm not going to tell what it is...you'll have to see it. Or, if it doesn't work out, this thread will be deleted, and I'll say 'what box?' :D
As I've learned, things that look good on paper, don't always work out in the car, but this one looks good.
Also, I'm not reinventing anything, or doing anything that hasn't been done before. Sometimes, you just have to dig deep into speaker enclosure theory.
One more set of clues...it will be built out of regular MDF (or MDF and Plexi), will use regular speakers (either Crossfire or Oz), and will be powered by normal amps.

old school tech - toby show these kids how we use to do it in the old days..........

lol, i know you did. But When I was at the previous meet, toby kept pullin your chain and saying you only hit 115 (or something stupidly lower). We just went along with him ;)
As for toby's box. I can only guess that its probably a huge sealed box (probably 4 cu ft.) I'd suspect he'd get that boost with a Phoenix Gold cyclone, but a regular sub, I don't know.
Damnit I did 128.

Its built. While its not small, its not huge either...36x24x13.5 outside. I'm going to try and put it in my new 'shop truck' for the meet, but I'm not sure I'll have time. Hopefully, I can power it up in something.

When we see it will you even explain to us how it works? or is that a secret too
