I cracked the RS trans open today to install the OBX front LSD and noticed that the gears and syncros were in excellent condition. My trans has been well taken care of by me, it has 140K miles on it and 1 1/2 years of hardcore
auto-x'ing on it. I was happily suprised. If you take care of these transmissions even when auto-x'ing them hard they will stay in very good condition. Just thought that was pretty cool.

170, basically a stock trans. Just with the driving and racing I do, it does not put alot of stress on the trans. I would love to be able to move to a nice syncro'd dogbox. But I cannot. Will be switching to the 4.44 fd by the end of the year.

with an rs it's pretty hard to break the tranny unless you've modded the crap outta it;)

A 4.44 FD would do what?
less gas milage?
better acceleration?!
I've never really researched this topic.

yes for autocross the 4.44 would provide some blistering acceleration. But top end would suffer. I am looking for the best low end acceleration to get the car to speed. So if anyone knows where a FXT trans is let me know.
