This might be interesting. Tonight on mythbusters (on discovery channel...I think)...

In this episode the guys ask, "Can a car stereo destroy a car with just sound?"

Maybe someone can tape it, and we can play it at the next meet, or something. I would, but I ditched my VCR for Tivo years ago.

So that means they'd have to tape it AND bring their VCR to the meet.... :D

if its as BS as the "brown tone" episode it wont prove or even make progress at proving anything.

I doubt that they'll 'prove' anything, but it is supposed to feature lots of dB drag footage, and might at least be entertaining.

Send them an email if you can do better.

There are a few I think they didnt do well enough, but I dont think that one is one of them. And of course I have a hockey game tonight.

Ok, so I'm watching it right now, and as smart as these guys are, it's painfully obivous that they havent deisgned too many SPL systems. Some of the cars they showed @ the db drags were pretty sweet. BUT, fromthe first tem minutes, it's not looking too good.

Looks like they are going to build a diaphragm and suspension, and then run it off the driveshaft, somehow. Remains to be seen if they are going ot seal anything or what, if any enclosure they will use.

161 at 16hz
isnt violent enough, give me six 15" woofers at 35hz in ported boxes for 30 hours and ill give you a pile of bolts.

I havent seen it yet tho, I'm gonna catch the download BT and see what happend.

Well if we are playing fantasy world, why stop at 6 15s? since obviously we are using a small enriched plutonium reactor to power 161 dbs for 30 hours, I might as well just use 20.

They didnt tune it, they didnt do anyhting besdies build a sub out of aluminum wedges and an innertube. I bet with some serious research behind it, it could do better.

Which is why no myth is ever busted. They rarely if ever accurately duplicate the 'myths' implied situation and conditions. They just kinda sorta get close.

As for the subs, some straight 120v sine waves would be a nice, violent, and painfull way to dissasemble a vehicle.

Man that was weak, that didn't prove anything excpet you can build a 51" diesel sub. I've seen 6 MTX Blue thunder 12's crack the back glass of an explorer before, and my 2 15's in the back my car put about all the pressure my back hatch windows could probably take without pushing them off the seals. I don't know about shattering the glass all around in a vehicle, but I'd like to be there to see it if it ever does happen.

No offense, but..... :bsflag:

Any vehicle capable of breaking a windshield would not be physically possible for a person to sit in, unless you're wearing a pressurized space suit.

I'm finally getting around to watching this. Yeah, the diesel sub wasn't too cool, but how about these statements:

190 db can kill you
The A-bomb dropped on Japan was 248 db

Now that's interesting...

248 dbs from where? And how'd they get a mic in there?

A cynic to the end - This one guy was in his hummer and had a walmart brand SPL meter out there and he got the meter results.

 Too bad they didn't have Hummers or Wal Marts back then. It would have to be more along the lines of a guy in his Packard and his 5 and dime brand meter. ;)

Something to keep the sub moving straight up and down instead of flopping all around like that and it would have done a lot better. The only reason it broke when it did was that it wasn't stabilized on the sides.
