My RE070 Bridgestones(Sti OEM) tires are nearing the end of there life and I was looking to replace them soon. They have enough life left for one track event but one of the tires were plugged so I'll replace them.
These tires would only been used for autoX and most likely a few track days per year with Chin.
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 were recommended to me and from what I've read they hold up great on the track even in the wet.

Anyone have any autoX experience with these tires? I know you typically don't get nearly as much heat in them.
Shopping for 225/45/17's here on my 3,250lb 255ish HP wagon......if anyone has any other suggestions of a "street tire" that would work well for both post em' up.
I don't mind spending a little extra cash for a better product, I've heard chatter that the Azenis get too greasy during track use.
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 $185.00
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R $168.00

I word AWESOME they are the best tires made...Period. I have down the equivelant of 12 auto x's and they lasted 12k miles and still have some tread. The car has come alive with these tires. The hotter it gets the stickier they get.
Also the are quiet to the end, no extra road noise or squeal as other tires do when they wear. They also stick super in the rain.
In the last Auto X I bested every M3 with a 330i. This is a situation of you get what you pay for.

they'll be good for trackdays but probably not as good as the oem sti rubber for an autox. the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 word suggested is probably the best of both worlds

Why not the michelin sport cup, nitto nt-01, toyo ra1, kumho victoracer, hoosier r6, avon tech RA, hankook z211, or yokohama a048? These are all DOT road race tires, and any of these tires would last an entire season, even at my pace. I am considering one of these to replace my v710s, since they will only last a few months when I make 15-20 runs per month. :nerd:

Every tire will get greasy when you overheat it. I don't care what kind of tire you run... if you're out there driving like you're chasing Schumacher, you're going to burn the tires off the car before the session is over. Pick a good solid tire and an appropriate pace and go out and have fun.

Haha. I corded a set of victoracers in 6 months.

I didn't do the math when I purchased my v710s. From what I understand, the v710 will last 70-100 runs. I can do that many runs in 4 months. I wanted a tire that would last a season.

oh yeah, the ADVAN Neova AD07 was good enough to win both sessions at road america in the rain during one lap. but if these are gonna be strictly track/autox tires i'd look into some of the r-comps listed above.

thanks for the info, I also wanted something i could get at least one year or maybe a hair more out of. At my current pace I'll make about 14-18 autoX events per year roughly. Compared to my current RE070's looks like the PS2 sidewalls are much softer. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to another set of RE070's but they aren't the best in the wet which I'd like to be prepared for during these summer autoX events.

The Azensis rt615's are dirt cheap. For your size- $111 a piece at vulcan tire sales. Worth trying out. If they start to lose some grip as the day goes on, you could always join Kenny and Paul and have your water sprayer handy on the grid.
Muddy- you have a light car and you are smooth and easy on your tires. That's not saying you aren't pushing it hard enough, just not over-stressing them.
I think they will last you longer than you think.

I've been really happy with the 615's on the FFR. They got a bit greasy at the end of a 20 minute session at midohio, but even then, they still had a lot of grip.
As far as wet weather behavior goes, they're great. It rained when I took the Evo phase 1 school and the only thing faster than me was an sti.

I only drove hard on my last run last weekend. I am still adjusting to the race tires. I think they might last 'till the end of the season. We shall see. :)

Those will likely be my next set of street tyres. I hear nothing but good things about them.

edgeracing has the Rs2 and rt615 for 99.00 and 112.00
I have been tempted to try the Rs2 as I had good results with Hankook tires many years ago.
I love the Toyo RA1 but they aren't recommened for auto-x since they need some time to build up heat. At sebring, they stick. I had rt215's on the 240 and once I switched to the RA1, I was able to push the car much harder in the corners and brake zones.

Thanks for the input guys, unless this auction I have my eye on for the PS2's has a really low reserve I think I'll go with the RT615's since they'll be used mostly for autoX duty where they won't build a lot of heat.
