Speedo cables
My manuals don't say very much about this. When I went to get my speedo cable they gave me the wrong one. It would not fit into the modulator on the tranny. The car did have cruise control before I swapped in the 393 and TKO600. Do I still need the modulator? I took back the NON-cruise control speedo cable and got the cruise control speedo cable. It works fine, its just a tight fit and I think that is why the last one broke. The crossmember for the tranny is right next to it almost. Is the modulator only for cruise control cars? Can I take it out and put in the non-cruise speedo cable? Will there be problems if I don't hook up the cruise control wiring.... even though I don't have it anymore? I appreciate any help or direction on this.

Modulator? If its a 5 speed, it goes into the speedo drive hole in the tranny. If it gets kinked because of a tight space, then yes, that will wear the cable out. Can you clearance the crossmember to get more room? Or maybe drill a hole in the crossmember to let the cable go through at a straight shot?
Yes I am carb'd. The non-cruise speedo cable looked as if it went in place of the modulator...... it had a hold down bracket just like the modulator. The cruise speedo cable just popped into the back of the modulator. So I have to keep the modulator....?

Modulator? I thought that was for automatics??
At any rate, there is a VSS(vehicle speed sensor) down there on some cars. The only places I seen it used is by the ECU(you dont have if its carbed, probably dont need it if you have EFI anyhow), and the cruise control.
So I dont see any reason why youd need it.
