View Full Version : St. Pete tomorrow.
Course looks decent, I will probably be there...
What's up with all the cones near the finish though? Looks very unnecessary.

It's been on the schedule at the top of the forum for the last 6 months. Do you need more advance notice than that? :D

Jeremy took the words right off of my keyboard. Check the schedule, all the events are there. Jeremy makes sure of it. (thanks, man)
As for the cones at the finish, we like a well-defined finish, especially at SPC where there's just no room to let folks go "off". It reigns people in tightly and protects the timing equipment, as well.

Loren,
What do you guys use to make up your course maps? Is it a specific package or is someone just really good with photoshop?

Duct tape rules! When you gonna make one of our events, man?
Leonard, I use Corel Draw to do the course maps. (version 9, to be exact... quite old) I am pretty good with it... or at least I've figured out how to do the things that I need to do to make a nice course map, and I'm good at that. You could do the same thing with Adobe Illustrator (you'd have to know your way around the software), but it's not really Photoshop territory... at least I don't think it is. I've seen similar things done with CAD programs by people who regularly use them.
I start with a blank document and put an image of the site map as the page background. Everything else is "objects" on top of that.

Wish I could be there but holding funds until Brooksville. Looks like an speedy course and a lot of fun. Hopefully the rain is not a factor tomorrow. Good luck!

When my alarm goes off @ 6:00 on a saturday and I can shake off the hangover enough to drive the hour down there. Today I decided to prep-cook for a beach party @ my club. perhaps when I actually get wheels and tires for the new car I'll be more motivated.
Possibly the best course I have ever run in St. Pete. Please have more like this. Sweepers=good. 180 Hairpins(or any maneuver requiring 1st gear)=bad.

Hey, I downshifted to first on this course... on my fastest run. You didn't HAVE to do it, but for me, the fastest line required it.
Glad you liked the course. It was designed by a Mustang guy.

 Mustang guy here.
Other than some puddles that had to be swept off in the AM, rain was not an issue. An average hot as hell Florida summer day.
The course actually didn't run as fast as we thought. Most were thinking sub 30 second times, but fastest times were in the 32s. Mid to high 30s for most.

I had fun. Too bad I hit a cone on my fastest run. :(
Here is a vid of my fastest run, 32.6 +1. The end is funny.

I am still dialing in the suspension and the nut behind the wheel, but the car is certainly looking promising. :)
