View Full Version : Bass System Question

I wanna get a powerful bass system in my car. I have a 1998 BMW 328is coupe. I just want to put one sub in the car, either 12" or 10" with one strong amp. I already have 4 eminence cellenium 8" (125 rms each), 4 eminence alpha 6" ( 100 rms each), 2 APT bullet tweeters, and 2 power acoustic horn tweeters (150 rms each). They are all getting 100 rms per speaker, yeah it's loud as fuck. What I was thinking of using for bass was a Audiobahn Immortal 12" inch (2,000 rms, quad 2 ohm, and it hits 95dB) with a Hifonics BXi 2006D (2,000 rms), and a custom box to meet the specifications that the sub needs. I will upgrade my alternator before I do install the sub. Do you guys think this is a good setup or is there something better?

Eminence, Audiobahn, bullet, and horn tweeters? Ghetto? No offense, but I was an installer for several years and I've seen you eminence/horn tweeter people time and time again and one thing I've learned is that ya'll care about nothing but being "loud" (in another thread in here, I think Toby quoted it as "sidewalk music"). I also learned that the majority of yall are dead set on the equipment and think it's the end all. So I won't bother trying to argue, but personally, I would do a complete overhaul.

P.S. Welcome to the Audio Forum. ;)

So if I do a complete overhaul what u recommend.

A 2 or 3 way component system up front, some full range speakers in the rear, all running off a 4 channel amp. 12" sub in the trunk, ported through the ski hole, running off a mono block class D amp. Do you already have an aftermarket deck?

That's a prety good range. You would be suprised how quick you can put money into a car though. I've had my new one for a month almost and have close to 4,000 in it, and it's nothing special really besides 5 screens and top line audio products.

I just understood that one smiley so here ya go:

$675 - JL 1000/1
$300 - 9" Visor Monitors
$800 - Pioneer AVH-5700
$200 - Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1s
$100 - Infinity Kappa 693
$300 - JL 300/4
$250 - Viper VX791
$250 - Farenhiet 7" Headrest Monitors
$320 - Flowmaster Exhaust
$400 - Upper and Lower Billet Grills
$200 - H.I.D. Conversion Kit
$150 - Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pack
$600 - Installation/Labor Fees.

= $4545

I know at least one of you willask about the 1000/1.....it's sitting in my room waiting for a W7 in a few weeks. I just ordered my Kinetik HC1400 battery today (so add $235 if you like to that list lol) and having the box built next week too.

Rear Monitors aren't in yet, hence the picture of them in my trunk. And showed pictures of the rest. I'm just curious what's horrible about it? I told him to run cheap wires, mount the amp real simple and easy to move, and the visor tvs he couldn't much with unless fucking with my headliner and leaving a hole there. And I did say I'm getting them fixed soon with new suede. Read all before posting.

I'm glad I shut ya'll up and still got something negative to say....*smh*...haters...

the727kid
07-01-2006, 11:20 AM
BTW $600 included, install of HU, all speakers, alarm w/remote start, install of amp, wiring, and all four tvs. I don't have the rear two in yet, I haven't had time to drop my car off for a day.

If you can do all that for $300, good for you, but your making like no money. That was the cheapest price around I could find.

No srry, Im gonna hate more now that I've seen the install - the monitors should have been mounted to new brackets slid under the headliner further out to allow them to close in the stock positions and the stock holes should be covered with plastic trim covers.

The amp isnt mounted at all, I bet the wire is wedged into the battery and the wire isnt loomed at all.

I'll reserve any props you might receive until after I've seen your subs and/or their numbers.

As for the $600 labor, what shop did you go to that did all that for 600? Name & address plz.

Audio Source on 34th St. and 48th Ave. S. (Maybe 47, or 49?).

And as for the visors..why do all that? He called me and told me they wouldn't fit, so I said just put them in there for now, I'm getting a new headliner soon anyways.

The amp is mounted....and wires are loomed ;).

Lol...reserve my props? If you don't give any now, you most likely won't ever until my car is 100% finished, and they way you seem, you will probally find the most minute details to exploit. It's all good though, I had all this before I even turned 17, I don't know any one else my age doing shyt like me.

oo arent you special; get off your high horse.

some of us ("your age") arent rich and have to have jobs to support our families rather than drop 4 grand into a shitty install.

btw props are given when your visors arent hanging off one end, the amp sliding around in the trunk and your claim of rear seat mounted monitors are actually installed instead of rolling around in your trunk.

Why the fuck do you need five monitors?

do you REALLY need to overcompensate for something?

lmfao, I think I peed a little in my pants, brb.

727kid, You are probably right about the props through, I respect quality and appearance - neither of which I can see so far. Your sub amp isnt even pictured(or in the car) the wires to your 4 channel arent loomed or bound in any way and I can only imagine what shortcuts were taken under the carpet where we cant see.

I don't start TR drama on a regular basis, but it seems like you brag a lot for a guy with sagging LCDs...

Theres will be no more heat coming from me till the next time you post something similar to planning to put 4 kicker L7s in ur trunk and dont show up at the audio meet...

btw we work for our stuff too, just most of us dont put all kinds of money into our cadi while living in pinellas park.. a car and car audio are both depreciating things.. which means you spend 100 on somthing, you get 50 out of it (if your lucky). some of us buy stuff that will, in the end, make us money.

No doubt, the phrase it takes money to make money goes there. I don't spend every dollar I make into my car. I am saving for a house too. Remember I am only 17, not too much I can do to get my returns. I have a life policy that I put into every month, that will yield a few hundred thousand when I'm in my 40s.

Don't think I'm just some kid that spends every dime I have on my car. If I did, this car would probally be close to finished.

Nah, He should get a good pioneer like the p980mp, go with the kicker rs series components in the front, maybe ks series in the rear. use the zx 850.4 for the speakers and either stick with complete kicker and use a 12" cvx, or go with something different like dropping in a jl 12w6 in a high output box. I have this in a civic hatch with just a 500/1 amp on it and it is LOUD! But please go with quality, if I have to put in one more "I want people to hear me for 2 blocks with my em 6's in the doors, rear deck, front console and a blow through....... At the shop I work at this is the most normal install we do. But that is what they all seem to want.......Kai

kid (as your board name shows even) You are just that. A kid. You were bragging. (as all kids like to do) A person with a nice setup doesn't need to say how much he/she spent or what went into it. Spending a lot of money on a system does not mean you are / aren't pimp. It shows that you use a lot of money thats it.

Don't let people call you out when you're not ready to be called out (Its the TR AHQ way)

As for the install, its incomplete. I personally wouldn't have my amp unmounted the way it looks like currently as bad things happen to amps that move around a lot. Also, all the wires shown do not look like they are tied down, show lacks of quality install personally. In one pic, it looks like your installer is using a line level to RCA converter, and that too does not look like it is mounted.

This car audio fourm takes me back to my 1st year in highschool. I have long since tried to avoid idiots in the car audio world, I couldn't take it anymore. There are so many know it alls that don't know crap. Maybe if you some of you guys grew up, the people who do know what the hell they are talking about would find the time to actualy come in here and give answers to the people who are humble enough to ask a question. Unlike you they didn't know everything the day they were born.

My shit would probably blow most of your know it all asses out of the water in every way. Performance, budget, install. And I did mine 100% on my own. I was able to do this because I asked alot of "dumb" questions for a long time. I could eventually spot a know it all at 100 yards. Now I avoid them, because no matter what you have, do or say, they will have something stupid to say. I got to the point of buying everything online because I didn't want to deal with a 19 year old salesman telling me what I needed.

My system looks, and sound exactly how I expected and wanted it to. I made it for me and noone else. If you don't like it, that's great, because you can't have it.

Thanks, went for quality, but it's pretty loud too.

I was going for something that sounded good, looked different, was as light as it could be with 4 12's, and something that was easily removable for going to the track.
