I'm not asking for advice here, but simply posing the question:
What would be the best bang for the buck low wattage system (650 watts or lower). I'm only referring to Subwoofer/Amplifer combinations, new or used, at under $150.
The reason I pose the question is because after purchasing what I thought were quite possibly the worst name brand subwoofers I'd ever purchased (Bazooka CS1014 subwoofers) used for $20, building a box for them (3/4" MDF, new automotive carpet, new gold-plated speaker terminals, and 65 interior wood screws) for a total of $33, purchasing a new Scosche 550 watt/40 amp/8 gauge amplifier wiring kit for $20, and finally a used Profile California 400 watt bridgeable amplifier for $22, I discovered that, at least within a 1g DSM, this makes for a satisfying low wattage system, and all for $95.
I've got the amplifier bridged and the gain below half way with the head unit (Pioneer) tuning "Lows" at -4, "Mids" at +3, and "Highs" at +6, accompanied by Pioneer 120w 6x9"s in the rear and stock 5 1/4"s in the doors and 4"s in the dash, and the complete system is very clean and full range.
I'm just impressed with this little system that could. Incidentally, it's installed in my girlfriend's car, not my own, but I'd put it in the Talon if it wasn't so heavy.
Any ideas on comparable low wattage systems (perhaps systems that you've built, although probably don't run yourself)?
