AE on 56th sells open face HJCs for $90. Its what I have and where I bought mine. DOT approved is not allowed, you need at least I believe a Snell 2000 rating now

I switched to an open face helmet. It isn't a bad idea if you have an airbag equipped car. In the unlikely event that your airbag goes off, it can break a closed face helmet. I think the SCCA put out an advisory on it in the last year or so.

I find it difficult to belive that an airbag (designed to cushion an impact) is going to break a closed face helmet that is designed to withstand an impact with a solid object (such as a car in the case of an M2000 helmet or a rollbar for an SA2000 helmet).

I agree. There would be a lot of people out there with broken faces filing class-action suits, wouldn't you think?

I got a full-face from AE on Ulmerton because my Escort's seat belt locks only engaged every 3rd or 4th time. I didn't want to break my face on the steering wheel.

M2000? To the original poster, make sure that your helmet reads, "Snell SA2000" somewhere on the helmet. M2000 won't due. I almost got sent packing one morning at a Porsche Club event because I brought a M2000 helmet with me. Luckily somebody let me borrow theirs.

M2000 is fine for autocross.

Maybe you are talking about an HPDE at Sebring? It would probably have helped if the original poster said what kind of racing he is doing with the helmet.

It could be an example of the Porsche Club doing what they want too....

SCCA says M2000 or SA2000 is fine for autox. I think as soon as you jump to solo trials that the M2000 helmets are no longer acceptable. If you think you might even do a HPDE or something like that, it's probably best to get an SA rated helmet. Buying equipment twice is silly. :)

I was surprised the Porsche club didn't check my tyre pressures during their tech. Heck, they checked everything else, including lugnut torque.

You're right. I couldn't find much about helmets and airbags, either.

I'm not saying you're wrong or that SCCA didn't publish something like that... I'm just saying it seems to be completely contrary to any form of common sense or logic. So it's probably true that SCCA published something about it. :)

I never did like that. If my tires aren't flat, don't waste my time. I can check my own tire pressures.

I remember there was a safety concern regarding the two, but my memory is a little muddy on this subject.
