Hey guys I'm new on this site.I Love car stereo, but I'm sick of having equipment everyone else has. So I'm looking at these new IDMAX 10 and their 1,000 watt rms. From what I've heard they are supposed to be the best spl/sql subs out.
Just lloking for some comments before I commit to buying them

Lol the best? Everyone has their own opinion. I don't think there will every be "the best sub" that everyone agrees on. Personally I think the new RE XXX but the price tag now a days on RE is not very friendly.

Lol the best? Everyone has their own opinion. I don't think there will every be "the best sub" that everyone agrees on. Personally I think the new RE XXX but the price tag now a days on RE is not very friendly.

And the best for what? Not just SPL or SQ but...

Best SQ in a small sealed box
Best SQ in a large sealed box
Best SQ infinite baffle
Best SPL for low power
Deepest bass extension
Best SPL for a large sealed box
Best SQ for a low budget
Best warranty
Best durability

You get the point...

Some might say the 'best' woofer is the most versatile. Some would say the best woofer has the lowest Fs. This is why some woofers get an undeserved bad rap, and some get an undeserved tag as being 'the best'.

If you read car audio, they tend to put each woofer in its ideal enclosure, and then rate various parameters. While this will lead to a 'best' woofer, if it ends up costing zillions (like the ICON they just tested), or needs lots of power, or has to have a huge box, then the runner up might actually be a better woofer for you. They also usually score each woofer in several categories...if one category has more weight to you, then the best woofer might not be the best if it scored lower in that category.

And then there is box design, and install...

Here comes my bold statement...I think that at normal to slightly loud listening levels, say, up to 110 db, any sub can be made to sound 'good' provided it is in a proper box (design and construction), and given clean power. Sure, some will be lower, some will be louder, etc., but they will all sound good, and will all be better than a system with no sub. Further, I would bet that 80% of people couldn't tell the difference between two such subs, on normal musical material.

So, if your goal is more bass, pick just about any sub, and spend the difference on a good amp, and good install. If you have a more specific goal, like big DB, or really low bass, or really small box, then identify that goal(s), and ask more questions. Also realize that some goals are difficult if not impossible (like huge spl, small woofer, small box).

There's lots of good knowledge out there, including on this board, but make sure you ask the right questions, and get the right answers. 'it slams in my buddies car' is not real usefull.

All that being said, and so I don't completely hi-jack this thread, image dynamics makes some outstanding products, and the IDMAX10 is most likely one of them. If it meets your audio requirements, and you can afford it, I really doubt you'll be disappointed.

I've NEVER heard anyone refer to a sub hitting as "hump" only bump or thump... not Hump... it... just doesnt even fit well.

Hump - adjective, noun :

1. Protruding object from person/thing/ground
2. to hump: the act of hip thrust attacking someone/thing/animal
