Wow, I guess noise is a serious problem at the Auto-X sites.
The SCCA website says they lost thier IRCC site because of noise.
I had my first EVO phase I there recently.
I guess I won't be going back for Phase II.
I can see why some people are getting serious about mufflers.
Here is a cut and paste.

06/11/06Good News!
Thanks to the hard work of Jerry Stein and all who took the time to fill out the survey the site at Valkaria will be considered. I will keep you all posted if I hear anything.
06/06/06I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
It looks like we have lost our site at IRCC. I got the word today. The noise level has upset the local residents and they have complained to the college. Our last event to be held there will be this weekend. If you liked the site and have any connections then by all means find out if there is anything we could do.

That is really sad when you think of how much noise is created when people mow thier lawn
I mean it wasn't like the events were held in the evening or the middle of the night.
Good that these people don't live near a school where they play football and baseball games to wake them up in the morning like when I lived across the street from my highschool.
What a shame :(

I have to wonder though... are the residents okay with police cars using the training facility? Why is that noise more acceptable?

Because it's the sound of justice sharpening her sword...

If they don't use sirens, police cars are nowhere near as loud as a bunch of performance cars running a course. Police people don't bang off the rev limiter just to avoid shifting before the next turn.
:dunno: I dunno, just a thought I had. Sucks that they lost their site.

Lawnmowers are tolerated because everyone uses them. What needs to be done, is to convert everybody to autocrossing.
I don't use a blower thing, so I want those banned. Noisiest thing in hell.

To clarify a few things, yeah, that old guy that couldnt keep his mouth from shouting obscenities at our autocrossers IS partially responsible for the CFR losing the Fort Pierce site. But thats not all there is to it...
The truth is that IRCC has plans for the area around/including the skidpad. The whole thing is (somehow) being converted to a 'homeland security training'.... thing. From what the IRCC representative that runs with us has told me, they are starting MASSIVE construction within the year, and they were almost certainly going to terminate the contract as soon as they broke ground on the new plans.
Was sound a factor? It would have been in the next year (I would guess) with all the homes in the area. Same thing with GCAC- new homes and homeowners, more voters, more people to complain. IRCC wasnt JUST a noise issue, it was more of a TIMING issue- the college was ready to let us go, so one a$$ drawing attention to us did alot to help speed up that process.
