A shock dyno is basically what it sounds like - a dyno for your shocks. You put your shocks into a machine that puts the shocks under the type of loads you expect it to see, then you check the results and tune from there. Most people with your average street production cars wouldn't need to use one of these becuase the shock manufacturer has already done these tests. We're building a Formula SAE car, and we'd like to get some data on the shocks we're using, and get some good tuning on them. Since a good shock dyno can cost anywhere from $5000 to $20000, we'd just like to borrow one for a day.

Dragula, thanks for the lead, I'll have to look them up.

That's funny, because I probably have your shock dyno sitting right in front of me in the SAE garage here at USF. The problem is that we can not use this for the high speed testing that we need to use it for. It uses pnuematics, which you can't really get that accurate of results with. It's still pretty cool though.

Anyone else heard of any other places that would have a shock dyno available?

BTW, I just called Pletcher Racing and they were VERY friendly and willing to let us use their shock dyno. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the recommendations.
