Thanks Barry, I appreciate all your efforts.

I went to the EVO class with Chi Town, so I hope I'm ready.
I'll ask my mom to pump up the tires on her Focus Wagon.

Congrats Muddy on the FTD. (FTD and Mother's day sound right together.)

Great job Chi Town, you looked really fast through the finish.
I'm glad to see you took Jamal's advice and hit a few cones.

I of course had a pretty spectacular SPIN OUT.
I had to clean cone marks off my rear bumper.

Un-Official Results.

Good job, Mark! It wasn't all that long ago that you finished in the bottom five, now you are in the top 5! :D

It felt good to finally get a FTD, for years I have gotten close, only to finish 2nd. :D

I really keep coming up short, IMO, for the times I feel I should be able to make with that much car underfoot :(

I started at 1:13ish and ended up with a 108.334 for my last run of the day... with an extra 165lb person in the car (WTF?)

I was the silver WRX with the front-mount intercooler and quieter exhaust. Anyone working while I was running have some comments/tips?

Yea Chi Town You were the Fastest Girl there. .. You even beat Penny in a M3.. so DAM looks like your getting it all dialed in.

Actually, I suppose 11th isn't too awful, with 1.3 seconds separating 5th and 11th. I'm always too hard on myself. Ignore.

you looked great out there man! I thought you could have pushed it a lil harder through the slolams at the back (I was at station 2), your turn around seemed a lil slow too, but everything looks slower from the sidelines, I think the boxes were a lil intimidating, but overall you looked good....did better than me...I finished 21st....still have some more things to work out, I think I need better tires though :(

Thanks - I definitely need to work on my 2-1 downshift, as well as getting it done ahead of time and not as late as I was (roundabout + the hard left on the way back).

I agree with you on the slalom speed. I thought the same thing at the end of the day - could have carried more speed through there.

We all know this Jeff, but here goes again. Here are my basic rules.

In slaloms, you need to find the limit real quick and right at that point ... you need to stop being greedy, be patient and keep the rythm (like the muddy video - awesome poise), I recommend short shifting while approaching a slalom and stay very smooth on throttle. You can setup your slalom exit about a cone ahead and really get on it (anticipation is key - LOOK ahead, look a muddy hands, they are moving ahead of the cones, not beside them through the entire course - the only way he can do this is by anticipating - looking ahead). It's an amazing feeling to let your eyes move your hands and feet 2 cones before the key cones...trust your eyes - this is where you start feeling that you know what you are doing.

When you break, you brake hard and always a fraction of a second before you think you need to (because you lose more time by overcooking a turn, and it's just darn hard to come in hot ) - you can't threshold brake and turn at the same time. If your front end is pushing, you are losing time (don't hesitate: lift throttle or unwind steering right away), look for the traction in the front...modulate/feather your throttle to keep those front tires at maximum traction. Turnarounds NEED to be kept as tight as possible. Yes, slow down. If you overcook the turnaround by 10 feet, you just lost 1 second there. (10 feet one way and 10 feet coming back - at around 20 mph (45 degrees aspect - translates to 28 ft at 20mph - 1 second)...and this applies to the rest of the course...keep it tight!

When at an autocross with a limited number of runs, you have to find the limit as quickly as possible (your first run), a run where you aren't pushing yourself hard ... is a wasted run. Now here is the qucker: this doesn't mean to overdrive your car: you always drive at your car's limit. I noticed you cut your time by 5 seconds between your first run and last run - that is too much. Walk the course and use those walks... if you can't visualize you run in your head, then you aren't concentrating enough...and tell me this: how are you going to be able to concentrate more while doing the actual run? Nope... Can you visualise the course right now - and take off 2 seconds?

Just my two cents. I know how it feels...just need to remind oneself of the basic rules. It's mental...real mental. Did I take another 2 seconds of your time?

About downshifts...unless real-real tight turns, avoid the first gear - if you are having trouble getting into it, then you don't need it. But then, my car has torque - does your?

I forgot to compliment BAM for setting up the interesting course.
He asked if people wanted a curved slalom again, but I didn't see any responses.

Not only did he have curved slaloms, they were Not evenly spaced.
Offset, unevenly spaced, and curving slaloms ... there's a challenge.
I'm all in favor of seeing new set ups. Keep it up Barry.

P.S.
Congrats Chi town on finishing so well, I had not noticed that you were faster than Penny. That's a real accomplishment.

P.P.S. Forgive me Muddy, I'm telling everyone in my office that it is me driving in the Video until someone calls me on it. (I'm Kidding?)

Again!?! You are lucky we have the same car!

I have enjoyed all of the BMWCCA courses, keep up the good work, Barry! The events are well run and well organized and I attend every event I can. My gf would have killed me if I went racing on easter, she is nuts about holidays.

Agreed - cool course, even if I completely spaced out in a sea of cones on my first run. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at the worker stations at the back of the course during my 1st run.
