I'm planning on going as long as nothing unexpected comes up. It seems like Zephyrhills is close enough to Temple Terrace that I would have a fighting chance of getting up in time to make it. Is this one of those locations that are bitchy about noise, or will the open downpipe DSM be ok?

Read through all the auto-x info links at the top. I'm hoping there is enough info in there to keep you from making a total fool of yourself, because that is the same info I've been reading, and I'm hoping for the same thing since this will be my first time running at an auto-x.

COOL!!! Lots of new drivers!!! The PCA is VERY first timer friendly. We will be bringing our S14 STS car (our Impreza driver is out of the country) and trying to work on the suspension with a new chassis tech. I'm sure it will be another fun event. We are all meeting at CUE @7 and heading over to the airport @7:30 as the shop is only 2-3 miles from the airport. Your all welcome to meet there if you dont know how to get there.

If I cant buy a helmet before the event what are the chances they will have loaners available?

robofunc
05-12-2006, 03:24 PM
They had plenty of loaners both times I ran one of their events. Plus, sharing with a friend will work if the loaners do run out. If I go I'll try to bring two helmets (someone gave me a free one!).

Something tells me Mother's day is going to be this month's reason for not autoxing. Seems like it's something new every month now...

Its doesnt say Snell anywhere on it, but it is DOT '06. Which events is this Helmet not going to be able to participate in?

I hope we didnt get the wrong type...

It will usually say Snell somewhere on the inside under the padding. That helmet will be good for the next Z-hills race only. Their website says that starting July 1st they require Snell. I would take it back if it's not Snell. Hit up the motorcycle shops for Snell helmets. All auto-x clubs accept both Snell M rating and SA rating. M rating is cheaper.

Hi Charles, Just show up.

I just hope they show up.
For those who missed the last one,
I think the guy running it showed up about 2-3 hours late.
I'd be willing to help out if they would let me know.

I never really thought about the "airport security" list thing.
It's an airport, but they don't require a list. Must be a little different.

It was a little warm, and the surface was as terrible as ever, but it was a fun event none the less!

A big congratulations to Charles Ray for taking the top time in the "Not a BMW or a Porsche" class. :-)

We got to see a course worker almost get run over by a 911 Turbo, and we saw a 911 go up and over the berm on the edge of the course! Interesting stuff. :-)

Congrats Rosko on your Fastest "OTHER" award.
(And he hasn't even gone to an EVO school yet.)

As I mentioned to you yesterday,
THEY should really call it something like "OPEN" class.
Especially if they are going to hand out awards that you could display.
"Open Class Winner" would have looked much nicer on the award.

I missed the flight or the Porsche (darn), But I did see the landing.

P.S. I have a chair with your name on it. Did you leave your's behind?

P.P.S. Man, this is a messy thread.

Thanks! I couldn't have been more excited to nip Jeremy by just a tenth of a second!

Have you ever seen a cat or a dog run real fast across a tile floor, then try to make a sudden turn? That's what my first run looked like yesterday. My point is that, after that, I enabled traction control - which I always disable at autocrosses. In this case, though, it saved my ass and made me look better than I am.

Note Danny's best run at 39.x, showing us what real driving talent is all about.

I've been to two other autocrosses at that site, and it never felt more slippery than yesterday. It reminds me of how good we have it at Brooksville.

Mark, I also support your "open class" suggestion. Maybe Barry or one of the other BMW / Porsche guys will note your idea. And, I didn't lose a chair. Whose name is on it?

jblaine
05-22-2006, 12:46 PM
"Open" doesn't indicate "No Porsches" accurately.

bam2002
05-22-2006, 12:58 PM
We actually consider it "D" class. Just because the BMWs run A thru C class. But it could be E class for everything.

Its easy to change.

Next event is at Brooksville, June 11th. Sign up at Myautoevents.com.

The BMWCCA events we dont give out any thing at the autocross but points. At the end of the year points= prizes. Last year was custom polo shirts with name/ place and class.

Yep I was the one at station 5 that the P car came after. Watched the prev car go past me since they were hitting cones at the last gate. THen heard the other cars tires break loose. He was heading my way but not moving very fast. It wasnt even a close call.

Barry

I'm a PCA member and I'll talk to the Autocross chairman about changing the "other" class to a better name. Also, I think it is a crime that they (PCA) charges $.50 for water at the events.

Thanks URY914, it would be nice to be called something like "Open Class".
Rosko received a nice award, but it would have looked nicer if it said something other than "other".

I don't have a problem with the club providing drinks for a small fee.
It can be pretty expensive to provide drinks to a lot of people on a hot Florida day.
(But maybe your point was that the water was the same price as the sodas.)

I Really did pick up a folding chair (blue I believe) that had a sticky note next to it with Rosko's name on it. The guys just assumed it was his, but the sticky must have just fallen on it. Anyone missing a chair?

I lost a blue fold-up chair at that site months ago. I believe it said "Saint Joseph's Hospital" on it. Is this the chair you're talking about? If it is, that's super cool. I thought that chair was gone forever. It was super windy the day I lost it. I figured the wind blew it God-knows-where.

Whatever they end up calling it, I was quite impressed that most of the quick cars here are Nissans, sweeping the top 3 spots. where I'm from you would expect to see some STI's or evo's perhaps a sickly preped honda. I think Nissans Are just not popular since they do not offer AWD in the snow belt.
