I had a question about the install for this headunit. In order to use the video while driving, what does it use to control that? I've heard that other headunits tell you to connect the ground to your e brake or something in order to activate video, is it that simple with this Alpine? Cause I want to install one of these myself and idk if it's going to be real complicated to do that or not. Does anyone have this Alpine that can tell me more? thanks..

From what I've heard and seen, it requires a sequenced signal to operate. You need foot parking on, parking off, acc, brake on, foot brake off, parking on.

There is a box that sells for ~$50 on ebay and at most private shops. You can build a relay combo yourself that will do it if you are proficient with a solder and relay principles.

It's not as easy as simply grounding out the ebrake being it has an ebrake AND foot brake wire which require them to be applied and released in simulation. However, there are two options. You can put switches on each wire to ground and then simply hit the switches in sequence to imitate the brakes, or the method I prefer, aftermarket companies (I believe Peripheral as well as a couple others) have created a small control box which you simply hook up ground, power, and the brake wires directly to and it automatically completes the brake simulation sequence for you. Do a search for it, they sell them everywhere online...should be about $50 to $100.

Whether you want to watch video while moving or not, get the box, or some other type of bypass. You need to do the 'brake shuffle' to get in to any of the advanced settings on that unit. I had one in here, installed in a handicap conversion van...what a pain. And each time you turn the key off and on, you have to do the shuffle again.

The purpose of the control box is so that you can view video while in motion. Even though it's illegal.

Yeah, alpine doesnt want you to watch video while driving. It's dangerous, and illegal. Every manufacturer makes some saftey deal to avoid the lawsuits really.s

Heres the sequence to bypass the Alpine video test on the IDA-D310 - wire a set of relays to do it automaticly when the car starts - I used 1kohm resistors and a 4000ufd and 5000ufd capacitors for delays and it takes about 5 seconds to charge the cap, trigger the signal and open the circuit.

POS to ACC
POS to pedal brake lead
GND to parking brake lead
Remove GND to parking brake lead
GND to parking lead
open POS to pedal brake lead

leave POS to acc and GND to parking brake lead

Here is a link to an ebay auction with an electronic delay box that does it for you:

People like me enjoy the challenge of wiring it up without a cheat box. I like knowing what every single circuit and every wires purpose is in my car. Thats one reason I will not buy an import :-o too many mystery boxes.

the bypass box has four wires man, how hard is it to install?

hook the BRAKE to the PEDAL BRAKE line on the HU
hook GND to GROUND
hook IGN to the SWITCHED IGNITION on headunit
hook PRK to the PARKING BRAKE line on headunit

the manual that comes with the box has a cute little diagram with pictures n shit, at least the one that one of my customers bought did. If you are talking about the switched relays then that a different story - one which isnt worth the time to post becase my brain still hurts thinking about hte one i built.
