Is anyone else going to the EVO school this Sunday in Ft. Pierce (IRCC) ?
I'm signed up, but I've never been to the site.
It looks pretty easy to get to it.
I'll just have to leave a few hours before I go to sleep.

I've been wanting to attend one, I've sent a begging letter to Jean.

I've always wanted to attend a track day but with only 108 hp I'm a bit worried out there. I know it's not supposed to matter but I don't know how well my car would hold up on the track.

Not a track day, this is autocross school.

As far as your 108 hp goes...at the track. Take it, you'll have a blast. A friend of mine brought his toyota camry (4 cyl.) to the track and it was awesome to watch. His instructor took it out during a novice session and was among fastest of the novice run group. It's not about how fast the car is, it's about how fast you can make it go. Consider it a challenge :D,

Oof. Phase 1 school is kind of a waste of money for you, Paul. I think you're a little beyond "just barely miss the cones in the slalom as you turn in" and "look ahead"

It is still seat time, and time with an instructor. It also doesn't hurt to practice the basics. I like to catch the occasional Evo school practice events.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Seet time with an instructor and being shown the basics. I'd be crazy to not take this opportunity. I promised myself last year that I'd attend an evolution this year.
I'd love to come back from this after being shown how to be 1.5 seconds faster on a technical 50 second course. ;)

As always, pragmatic you are. Hope you are wrong. I'll let you know first hand.

Hi to all-
Registration is offically over but I know the teens still have some to register when they get there Saturday.
Info-Teen school
Be there 8 am. Waivers with parent signature need to be pre filled out and notarized, or both parents or parent with sole cusotdy can sign at event. Bring chairs, cooler of drinks...but pizza wil be ordered for you teens. Plan to be there from app 8-3 or 4 depending on the turn out. If the kids have cell phones, have them bring them.
Phase 1-
Plan to be there at 7:15ish to be ready to run at 8am. You wil be there till app 4:30...bring coolers, chairs and your lunch as we have a working lunch and keep going striahgt through. Bring paper, pens, helmets wil be there. Masking tape if you do not have numbers is good to bring.
Site is at Indian Community College...go to the Central Florida Region SCCA and click on solo and the east coast, directions are there. If needing a hotel, I am staying at the Econolodge but there are plenty there. This was very economical.
If for some reason you need to get ahold of me----call 407-595-5345. We seem to be full at this time, so if you cannot make it, please call. I have people who want in.
it's going to be a great time for all. Still spaces for the teen program if you know of anyone interested.
Jean
Thanks....

Thanks for the info Chi Town.
Getting to the other coast by 7:15 am is going to nearly kill me.
I don't have time to board my dog, so I'll be leaving Tampa well before sunrise.
I hope there are no speed limits that early in the morning. (I'm kidding. I never speed.)

Any chance of getting an Evo school to come to Brooksville?
I had a great time. But I had 5 hours of travel time that I'd like to avoid.
I need some new CDs. I don't have 5 hours of good music.
I thought about starting a new thread to see if we could hook EVO up with one of the local autox clubs.
P.S. Thanks for the use of the Saabaru.

We are back! Oh my, talk about seat time!!! ~35 runs! You are right Jeff! We had the basics imposed on us.
Yes, I knew the basics I just never had anyone show me/confirm first hand how it's done; think about 30 runs with a national champion sitting beside you....wait...we get 2 different instructors assigned to us. That is what the school is all about.
Well worth my day!

No doubt it's a lot of seat time. The Phase 1 school I did in 2003 was my turning point as far as feeling confident with my car.

i think a lot of what i learned is still sinking in and hopefully will flow out onto the course as i continue this season
i really enjoyed everything we did and what we worked on
i really enjoyed the instructors, they were really positive about what we could improve on and how to do it
when i got on the highway to go home i heard a wierd noise that sounded like i had a flat front drivers side tire. i pulled over and found that the kones struck back ...
my fender well lining had busted and the screw at the bottom was gone. luckily i had what i needed in my tool box and fixed it on the side of the road.
i also found that the lining behind my front bumper had poked out causing major air flow disruption, so i popped that back in as well.
crazy the stuff you have in your tool box that you'll find out one day you'll need
91 kone killer ~ 3 kones under the car
kones ~ 2 fixable damages
i stopped by my friend David's in Rockledge to also correct the over impacting of my lugnuts ... holy crap some mechanics hate it when a girl tells them the correct torque spec for their car, this azz put them on his way to prove some stupid point .. won't be going back there ever again to have tires mounted.

I remember that someone ate 3 cones and brought them back as under car trophies. Was that you? I saw the workers trying to pull them out, and the car was chewing on them like a greedy dog with a new toy.
I was putting a new downpipe on my MX-5, and while I was under the car I considered removing all the covers that seemed unnecessary. Then I thought they might be there as cone protection. I'm glad I left them on.
Excellent class and instructors.

CTB: I don't think it's a gender thing. Shops get pissy about that, period. TiresPlus in St. Pete didn't like me asking them not to use an impact gun, to only put my lugs on hand tight and that I would torque them after the car was rolled back.
I'd asked for non-OEM alignment specs too.
"So, basically you want to just do the job yourself."
"No, but if it's too much for you to target alignment specs that aren't in The Book and if it's a big deal that I don't want my lug nuts cranked down NASCAR-style, I'm happy to go somewhere else."
Not another word, and they did the work, but I'll never go back.
The techs were actually cool and had no problem with it. The office jackass was the one with attitude.

Spin Out ~ yep that was me *hears cheering in the background* :lmao: man they were stuck under there ... my car doesn't understand the command "release" like my german shephard sir tut did (r.i.p.)
jblaine ~ it was the same situation for me but reverse, the guys in the office were cool, even double checked it to show the tech, the tech was the one who decided to be an ass and like you they lost my business as well.
i'll agree about the genderless and say, they just don't like that the owner knows the car as well ;)

For sure, those things were probably well over double the correct torque spec.....

Thanks for the photos.
They reminded me of the real toilets (with running water) and covered seating.
I felt like Royalty.
It was not hot on Sunday, but I had a flash back to a couple of autocrosses last Summer that were real scorchers. A little shade and running water would have been heavenly.
