Just looking at a few 98-99 gsx eclipses. and I am not a dsm guy whatsoever but im interested due to cheap car prices and parts are cheap too so i have seen. anywho, wondering how much power the awd will handle in stock form. also wondering what parts to beef up when it comes time to and what websites offer the best parts. also, how much power can the motor stand up to and what websites sell the best parts for them including turbos, fuel, cams, internals, and the rest of the performance parts. And.. what first 4 or 5 mods do most people do on these awd turbo cars? and the ones I was looking at had auto tranny's, any problems with those?? Thanks alot for any info!

400-500 hp, but you have to make sure to have full supporting mods and probably some race gas or meth injection. autos suck, im sure they are stronger, but they are boring

The 2g 7 bolt engine should be able to handle 400 whp reliably. The drivetrain will easily take that if you don't abuse it. If you want to see what's available for these cars look at slowboyracing.com because they have the largest selection of parts and decent info and pics of most of their stuff. The first 4 or 5 mods I would do to a 2g are intake, exhaust, bov&upper intercooler pipe, boost controller & gauge, and a datalogger. The auto tranny should be able to hold the power with a few basic mods. Don't discount it as being boring, check out this cool paddle-shift tranny controller www.tcugo.com An auto tranny turbo car can actually launch harder with less stress on the drivetrain and shift faster, and be faster down the 1/4 mile

i have a 98 gsx 5 spd and i have driven 2 gst 's with a/ts and they shift faster and more consistent but they do take the fun out...if you plan on building a full drag car a/t is the way to go want a modded street car look for a 5 spd...the a/t's are fast tho we have been modding my grandma's gst a/t and that bitch is badd

How much power will the stock auto tranny hold on the 2g's?

not exactly sure but my buddy in stl was running low 11's in his 98 gst a/t..all stock internals..without any tranny work

well how much power was he making? how many times did he get it down the track before it broke? sorry about all the questions, Just kind of curious because i've never really heard any info on the auto and since it's on topic, why not get some extra "know" lol

I too have heard that the auto trannies are rather weak (not the the manual versions are built beast themselves). I thought I remember reading that the auto usually needed to be beefed up a bit when making the 300-400+ HP range.

Obviously, I could be sorely mistaken. Perhaps Jerry or the Brothers can shed some light. :)

Ok guys, I have an A/T, she's my daily until I get my Evo, and she's held up well with the few mods I have so far. (Check in my TR Garage for list of mods, does need to be updated though)

Anyway, here's some info about the A/T.

This guy here is the main man when it comes to A/T DSM transmissions: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/
If you have any questions on the dsm auto trannies, just call their number.

Link to his forum with plenty of info on DSM A/T's: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=1

If I were to upgrade my auto tranny I'd go with him. Either fully built one by him or step by step (shift kit, end clutch setup, stall convertor, tranny temp gauge, larger tranny cooler).

And as far as the main topic, good luck finding a 98'-99' 5spd gsx. They're hard to find.

I know the 1g autos can hold decent power with the mods listed above- end clutches, shift kit. There are guys running almost stock trannies down into the 9's now. I don't know about longevity at that level.
