I have an 00 Grand Prix GT. It will get hot at red lights or if I sit with the engine on for an extended period of time (5 mins)... Then will cool down once I start driving. A friend of mine told me it was this thing for the cooling fan, something about a switch when you're driving the cooling fan is off, or on low, but when you're sitting it's supposed to be on high? Anywho, anyone know exactly what this is called, so I can get it online? Or should I not bother and buy a whole new fan itself? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply buuuut....

I was looking towards more a factory thing, and that's kinda ghetto-rigged. Not a LITERAL switch I don't think, just a module or something that tells the fan to switch high or low... no suggestions?

So you want to replace the fan relays. Look under the hood in the fuse box. Right were the Acc. (+) post is. There should be a fan relay in there.

How hot is the car getting?
Is is getting warmer then normal or actually over heating?

Just way warmer than usual... Around 215/220, causing the engine and tranny to slip and act all funny until it cools down again :P

215 is normal operating temp.

When is the last time it was flushed?

Flushed about 2 months ago. Stayed norm. for about a day then shot back up while sitting at a red light only... I'm pretty sure that it's a cooling fan relay, and are you sure 215 is normal operating temp? I thought it was supposed to be around 190 or so. It could be higher, I don't remember right now but I'll look at the cluster once I get it back.

Can anyone help me find out where to buy a cooling fan relay for a 98-06 3.8? I'm pretty sure that's the problem now. I'm searching on the internet, but can't find anything... Thanks.
