From now on, there will be drifting at Evergreen speedway in Seattle (this is the track scheduled for FD later this year) every Friday night! The cost is only $30 to drift and $7 to spectate. They will be happening in conjunction with the Friday night street drags.

I think that you FL guys should approach you local tracks with this kind of idea. Not JUST drifting, but combine it with something they are familiar with, like drag racing. It actually worked out well after they saw what we were about. Has anyone tried this?

we dont have street drags.

or the local drag strips dont have areas to drift, mostly dirt lots or small patches of concrete

yea and im headed to one of these events right now. FastDrifters is a set of events that is part of a racing series that goes on saturday nights. there has been some hiccups but today should rock, a flat/near flat oval that is wide as hell (so im told)....

we are the 7:00 show and then at 8 is other events, they race latemodels, trucks, kids (12-15) in 400hp trucks, and midgets. its a whole night of racing with 3-4000 people in stands.

jsut no one (drivers) are into these yet... i dont get it.

We already attempted this kind of set-up with Lakeland SpeedWay like two years ago. I remember one of the night events very well. Ranjo crashed (bad line..crashed into wall  ), Buck crashed (didnt keep both hands on wheel  ), and Vang was tearing it up in the green S14, and a few people from the Z orlando crew came over, and one of them went sliding around. It was a cold night, and it was probably my most memorable drift event i have, though its not the best.
The event didn't work out, I'm unsure why it didnt. I think it was $45 to drift. It was one friday night for the 1st 3 months, and then every friday of the week. It never took off after the 3rd event.

We floridians are too poor to drift....well that's current. Let's see what happens within a few months after FF3 comes out.
Dumb fucking FWD kids and their plastic trays.

It sounds like the main problem is seat time. From what you described, it sounds like you have to share the track with alot of other drivers and for not that long. It also sounds like those 4000 people aren't really there to see drifiting. Events always fail unless the drivers are happy. Just something to think about.

eh around here, I see it dying out after a month or so due ot lack of funds by the driver just for the upkeep.

we use to have drifting every firday night or evevry other in lakeland, but things went down hill due to the promotor not caring about the drivers safety

Those concrete barriers on the inside of the oval tracks was trouble.
Several cars came within inches from hitting it, and its all on tape.

They even let a 13 year old drive one of the events. I'm not saying his name, but he is on TR.

damn.....I really need to look into this problem of no local drifting events...what are you drivers actually looking for in your "perfect" event? Please give me some feedback, I have some fairly powerful/influential friends that happen to like motorsports.....

its paying for the places to rent, and then worrying if drivers will pay 125$ each

At SPC in stpete, the SunRiders put out a autoxing event every month. $40 to run it, but only average about 6 laps, which is about 6 mins of total seat time :(

I attended one of their event, its awesome, its great. There was some nice cars out there including GTOs that were actually DRIFTING through most of the turns leaving trails of white smoke.

I prefer tracks like Ocala, and big parking lots. Plenty of room for fu*k ups....those i do alot because its sooo fun. It's just fun to run it, and mess around.
Try too hard to pull that perfect drift, you wont have fun.

some (most) people on TR get off track on these posts, and I believe that is one of the resasons the Florida drift scene is very grim. I hope that some day in the near future, we all can stop talking shit, get together, and come up with a frequent drift event. there is more than enough people that want drifting in this demographic to make the rental prices lower for each driver.
