I have these 2 kicker 12 inch comp vrs in this box
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Kicker-Dual-12-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Package-DCVR12-/sem/rpsm/oid/117529/catOid/-15481/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

and im thinking about buying this kenwood amplifier that puts out 850 watts rms at 2 ohms and 1700 watts max at 2 ohms
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6983106&type=product&id=1099388637322

now.... my subs in this special kicker box or w.e run at 600 watts rms the amp im getting is gonna rms at 850 watts, and my subs will peak at 1200 watts the amp im getting will max at 1700 watts, im told it isn't as bad 2 over power as 2 underpowering,, Ppl tell me i'll be fine as long as i turn the gain down and shit ,, it should be fine.... what do you guys know about overpowering the subs likethat .. i hope this amp won't overpower them so bad that they'll blow and sound messed up,, i could get this other kenwood amp that runs at 550 watts but im just getting hte one that runs at 850 watts cuz it's about the same price and i wanna get everything out of these subs.... feedback appreciated thnx

one review on circuitcity.com ,, one guy was using the amp i wanna get and said this
"powered by Kenwoods new 1,700 watt mono block - they are amazing. No distortion even when played at high levels. They get so loud it will actually cancel out your voice! Definatly worth the buy! Plus its a really simple hook up for the box. The subs come prewired!" so hopefully they'll work great LOL

max ratings for the most part don't mean dick, particularly with bb and cc brands.

that amp will be fine... if you run into any problems (which you shouldn't), just turn the gains down. always better to have a little too much than not enough.

damn thanks for the feedback that makes me sleep easier ,lol,, cuz iw as thinking about buying this other kenwood amp that underpowers it by about 100 watts,, but your saying what i was hoping would be the case... i'll repost in this thread next week how it sounds ,, aiight pce

The RMS is the electrical capacity of the amplifier given perfect circumstances. Meaning that a 500w amplifier has the capability of reliably channeling 500watts of power through it for an extended amount of time without catching on fire assuming it has an unlimited supply of stable power at its rated voltage and that it is properly cooled. In the real world, amps will lose performance to heat, signal distortion, and imperfections in the circutry.

By turning the gain down you will reduce the output as well as greatly improve the THD level to a fraction of its level at full power. S/N ratios are measured at around half power too so you will get better SQ by turning the gains down.

I question if that Kenwood amp even puts out what they say it does. Either way, I think you'll be fine. Just don't go bumping around all day with the volume past the threshold of pain.

thats the attitude that gives car audio a bad name- btw it is louder and sounds better when the windows are up..................

Not necessarily. But yeah, be considerate to people around you who may not want to listen to your music as well.

it might be electrically capable of it but I agree doubtful if real world measurements would be at that rating.

be considerate?? lol,, you can blow and get stress cracks in ur back windshield easy if you keep ur windows up while u play ur subs loud,, has something 2 do with the air pressure or w.e,,, plus subs r meant to disturb ppl in my opinion, lol ppl have to listen to my shit at the stop lights

but im just going to turn the gain down and keep it running pretty powerful,, those subs can take a lot of punishment i think

There is nothing factually wrong with his statement. Subs ARE meant to disturb people, not reproduce music, you can blow and get stress cracks in your back windshield, its very easy. It all has to do with pressure or w.e.

I dont agree with the disturbing people - there are plenty of ways to use subwoofers to reproduce accurate sound that will not annoy people and could not otherwise be heard. And you cannot create stress cracks or blow any window on a vehicle unless you are simply producing sound to annoy people/get attention. Either way, music played that loud couldn't be for audio enjoyment and if thats the only way you can get attention go buy some neon lights that dont disturb people or work on your myspace page.

In summary, unless you are being a jackass, neither one of those statements are reasonable.
