DONT SLEEP

now i enter auto-x :D i know im a great racer...but what about takeing turns.... this is something that has always bothered me... i can build and make a car go fast straight, but what do i do when i wanna take turns... my ef hatch has a 00 gsr swap so theres power potential there. lsd transmission and a full da disc conversion as well as energy sus bushings through out the entire car. my biggest wory is my suspension combo. for some reason I WANT a reall full coilover setup... right now i have skunk 2 coilovers (drag launch kit) with koni yellows. what would you guys recomend? main reason i want the real coilovers is because there are so many variations of adjustments. any help would be appreciated. thanx in advance.....

+1. Get a baseline of the car in its current condition. You might even surprise yourself at how well it handles.

if you're interested in reading, a good place to start is

Tune to Win by Carroll Smith -- ISBN 0879380713
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0879380713/

It covers most of what you need to know about making a car handle in turns to get you started...

You need expierence not parts. You can goto events and see crx with race tires outrun stis on race tires.

don't know about that, but yeah, there is alot of driver skill, and CeeJay, i think your rear springs are a wee bit stiff for Auto-X, but hey, it'll be a fun spin ;)
but yeah, either way, got out, have fun, whatever, its no big competition either way, i'm pretty sure i ran about the slowest times yesterday, but i had a blast, people are nicer too at Autocross events, its all about fun.

I entirely agree with this... if you go to an autox and ask people about their setup, most will spend plenty of time talking your ear off and want to help you do better.

Do the same at a drag race and you'll get a lot of cold shoulders....

I'm with Mars on this one. It's almost entirely driver skill, especially at the local level. Click this link for proof...

Add another +1 to forgetting parts and getting seat time. Look at the STICKY with the autocross schedule and sign up for as many as possible.

yeah, i thought you meant stock for stock, but yeah, modded, its driver skill, thats what i noticed about this weekend, the power deficiency in my car was only a problem on like 1 or 2 parts, but i wouldn't have needed it if i were a better driver, and for the most part i had like 300% understeer that was really hurting me

The next NASA-X event is in Brooksville on May 20. There are others in the interim, check the sticky at the top of this forum for the schedule.

Should be a good event. I did an SCCA event there near the end of March, and the runway course they designed was really fun.

ceejay you need new tires though , or you can't run

· Seat belts are required in all cars originally equipped
with them. Vehicles must pass a basic safety inspection
(battery securely mounted, no loose articles in car, tire
tread acceptable and so on

I can't wait to get out to my first auto-x event. I'm getting my car in shape for it slowly but surely. The main thing left is getting the battery mounted securely. I just finished my front mount install and was doing some test runs tonight running strong at 20 psi, which is completely meaningless in the context of autox, but hey, it's fun going up those on-ramps. I think the much more important point is that I got a quote and I'm going to have transwheel fix my RX-7 wheels so I'll have some real tread under me, though just crummy Ziex 502's, still a huge improvement over steelies+crap tires.
