View Full Version : So who is gonna shell out the $8,000 for a nice track to rent?????

Just curious because no one wants to run ovals, but none of you can afford a real track......
So i'm wondering what Local Major Drift Shops are gonna step up to the plate and start seriously backing a promoter to help rent tracks such as Moroso, Homestead, Daytona, Gainesville............
So far the only shops willing to Sponsor financially are SpeedZone(Orlando), RZ Motoring(Tampa and Orlando), Addicted2boost(Orlando), Braille auto(Ft.Meyers??) and Central florida Performance(tampa)................
You would think more Drifter Friendly shop,s would be willing to help support the people who actually purchase parts from them so they could have safe legal places to put those parts to use nooooo???????

So you steal people's prepaid money for the cancelled fairgrounds event and now you are charging them an EXTRA $25 to get in. So now they are spending an EXTRA $25 just for ONE event. You fuck stick. I hope no one goes to your event.
What happened to ALL of their money? Drugs, Skoal, Porn, what?
Back on topic. The Moroso skid pad is nice. They will turn the sprinklers on for you if you want. I talked to them a while back about the new kart track, but after looking at it they didn't use good asphalt. It started falling apart a month after they opened it to karts.

It's not up to the 'Shops' to help put on events. It's up to the drivers, it always has been. Granted it's nice when a shop/business sponsors the event, thus making it a little easier on the event organizer...but this doesn't always happen.
Most of you guys have to realize, track time costs money...that will never change. If you want 'shops' to come pay a bunch of money so you can get $20 track time, dream on. I mean Shift-Lock's events are only like $73 or whatever, that's a freaking awesome price for seat time (eventhough it's an oval, but you get what you pay for).
Would you rather go pay $150 per event in California? No, most people here would throw a little hissy fit and make childish posts about "THEY JUST WANNA MAKE MONEY BLAH BLAH BLAH". There are people that gladly pay $250+ for track time at REAL tracks like Sebring, Road Atlanta, VIR, etc. Are any of you willing to do that? No, because most people here somehow believe track time should be cheap.
So here's what needs to happen.
A) You guys need to wake up and realize that quality track time at quality venues costs real money. Accept that fact, sac up and shell out the cash required for good tracks.
B) Stop complaining about not having tracks, having bad tracks, not having enough events, etc and just be happy with what you have instead of passing the blame onto other people.
You guys are lucky to have events period. If you think it's easy to setup/organize/promote an event, maybe you should give it a whirl. Rob busts his ass up there in Orlando so you guys have a place to practice for a killer price. MRanlet is busting his ass for DG to get awesome new venues and has some KILLER shit in the works that will be announced super soon.
So stop complaining about the drift event status of FL unless you're personally out there taking steps to improve it like the above mentioned guys.
Also, if you're thinking "this guy Kyle is a total dick" that's fine, I am a dick. But I unfortunately know what I'm talking about. Many old schoolers in here can vouch for me, what I do, have done and my knowledge on this matter.

i agree with you here. i wouldnt mind paying 150 bucks fro a great track and to have a little variety in the drift scene. Rob definetly is kicking ass in FL! and iv backed him on many forums because of the dealings i'v had with him and he's a good guy helping out.
i think if some shops were to help sponsor the events it would help all around in landing the new venues to give the person scheduling the event a little more assurance that they wont be paying out of pocket. well i dunno how it fully works out. i would like to know but i dont. I just register and pay the costs how ever much it may be just to have fun drifting legally.

Not likely, most complain about $75-90.
Motorsport costs money. Drifting is CHEAP when you compare it to club racing.
Mars_302
04-09-2006, 09:51 PM
who says you guys need to be renting a real track? Most of those tracks listed are some serious highspeed tracks for starters, not to mention, they have walls.
it almost seems as of late there is too much drifting and not enough money from the drivers to pay to play. You got Rob doing an event, once a month, you have/had the Fast drifter series, you got Ter-tech tossing up on occasion a practice and a competition, plus random events here and there.
I hear lots of times of ppl saying "'ll pay it" but im my own personal expierence with a lot of things, motorsport and none, when it comes time, ppl are hard to find that said they would pay.
honestly I dont see drifting dissappearing, but I either see it become like drag racing with runday sundays once a month with plenty of local grassroot stuff and still supporting a pro series, or its just going to back to parking lot drifts late at night.
You guys are the ones that have control over this and how the sport is treated and percieved.

I would have no problem spending the money for good track time. But I'll be the first to tell you I wont be going to any events soon because I barely have the money to keep a roof over my head let alone owning a nissan. i dont mind spending 150 on a good track day, I loved DDays they were great, i still say there is parking lots out there that could be rented for a fraction of 8000. I called one once (mall parking lot) and they only where asking for 2000 for 2 acres of parking lot (3200 with insurance included) . Sadly that mall was bought off by a developer and it was torn down. But there is deals like those out there. We just have to look harder. If one you see a place that you think is worth it, let Rob, Mike (ranlet), or Harri (tertech) know about it they might be able to get something going.

We'll charge what we need to in order to make the events happen. If it's $150 then it's $150, if it's $45 then it's $45 - those who really want to go will find a way.
I can't announce anything yet because we are still working out the air bubbles, but I'd advise those who are in want of a parking lot event to set aside that money you were going to spend on seeing FF3 for something else ;)

thats what i'm talking about.
however, most of you are missing the point. The only ones who are gonna pay big $$$ for nice tracks are those with race prepped cars who are ready for that level of commitment. Most do not even want to enter OGP for 'fear' that they will look stupid b/c their cars are not ready and dont have eleventy billion hp. what FL needs is simply a 'cheap' skidpad. that way, noobs wont be intimidated, cars wont get destroyed, and FL can develop some actual skill and car readyness for when those big venues do come along.

you listed one of the problems is noobs being intimidated or people are afraid to damage their cars i have only been drifting for 8 months and i have seen just as much damage on the streets and in parking lots just as much as a track there are always obsticals walls, trees, mailboxes, cones. it doesnt matter who you are or what your level is know you car and its limits and youll do just fine i personally suck but i know my car and havent hit anything "yet"... so yeah its suck and its scary your first time on a track but just do it and it will all be better and youll love yourself later

I dont know dude, I really dont get what you are saying. I have been drifting for over a year now. Both in the streets, parking lot and tracks. I have never damaged my car in the streets, or parking lot. I went to 4 of the DDays and never had any damages, I entered Hialeah speedway and KABOOM there went my S13, everybody hits something no matter where. So i dont get where you coming from. i do understand those noobs cause if you are new to something and you go to your first drift event and you crash; Where do you think your selfsteem is going to go? So i say a couple of Ghymkhanas and some road courses will help you get better, and then when you have enough car control is when you try an oval. IMO....

up here in memphis we rent a small airport about two hours from us in walnut ridge arkansas. granted it doesn't have the niceness of a track, but it gives you somewhere safe to go out there and try. track fee's at memphis motorsports park aren't too bad, but they are pre-booked a year in advance. mall lots here, out of the question. even if we get permission the cops still run us off. i hate this place, can't wait to be back in central fl again.

i had a track that i used for about 5 events and had zero cars get fucked up. it was a kart track the perfect track to use for drift events. no curbs, no walls, no poles, no trees. in a parking lot setup for driftin you hit a pole either you are really stupid or the event set the track up wrong....go to an autocross and see how they set the track up so if you do over shoot a turn it won't put you towards a pole. cones do not count as an obstical to be scared of hitting. on an oval its just too much of a chance that even the best can lose a car instantly. he can do 20 perfect laps and then one little fuck up and its over. then when he needs a new shell all the posers have them damn it.
