89 supra tanny question

Im a honda guy have been for a long time. And somebody wants to trade me a 89 turbo supra for my 95 civic so im thinking about doing it but... the supra is an automatic i was wondering if automatic supras are good? and if not how hard would it be to change it to a manual because thats what i would like to eventually do. If anybody could help me asap that would be great

i changed my '87 supra to a manuel it was fairly simple, got lucky it was all from the junkyard, i think it was about $250 in parts

yea the AUTO trannys r garbage.......definately swap to a manual...

Pretty much anything over 330-350hp on an auto tranny its gunna need to be built... They're fun, but not like slammin through gears... My last supra was 330hp on an auto, my current one is a 5sp and a "weeeee" bit more power... ;) Comparing the two experiences, 5 speed v/s auto, I love the 5 speed more... Luckily, you livr in Tampa where there are quite a few really knowledgable MKIII guys, and gals, lol, I wont leave out Kelly, she knows her shit... So, if you ever decide to go 5 speed, you'll have alot of help and know how behind you...

so true dude, this is my 2nd supra, first was auto 7m and the tranny blew 2months after i got it at 10psi..replaced with JDM auto tranny and never had a problem with the tranny after that till i blew my HG , then i sold it played with 2 S13's and went back home:D now with a Twin turbo mk3:D

Where can I buy a jdm auto tranny? and if i put one in would it last for a while at 15psi?

I've heard of autos being good for up to 400rwhp if you take care of them...get a tranny cooler and make sure everything is fine internally before putting down any power and beating on it. Chances are the fluid hasnt been changed either, so you might want to do that
