good stuff. But it totally sucks because I'm not there. I've never been this bummed out about missing a race in my life.

Thanks for posting video!
The stang was some nascar driver. He was doing okay at making the crowd happy. I got there right after ter tech left the track so I didn't get to see them.
It was a good display to introduce people to drift and it was especially neat seeing it in such a public environment. I couldn't help but ask myself "what if X, X, and X, were here?". It was cool talking to Ernie. He's really cool about talking to everyone and answering questions.
Oh shit I'm rambling :)

I was watching this from turn one, top of an RV and to say the least, ONLY ONE driver started to slide before the turn was there and only did it 2 times, both ended with him stopping, one he spun away from the turn (rode ebrake in, lost speed then countersteer took over and spun him) the other he came in way to hot and slide sideways until he stopped parallel to a wall about 2feet away. Harri and the previoue driver (red s13) were the most impressively controlled slides but harri said he was running without a cylinder or 2. The rest came in and it was 50-50 if they would even slide, let alone look good.
Not trying to be a dick but it wasn't as good as you might think...
another thing i found funny was the girl of the battlegrounds team (i spoke with later in day) said that FormulaD was a waste of time because you travel across country for a few runs, dont qualify, and are done... well with the talents I saw out of the BG car, I agree- FormulaD is a waste of time if you only have a car, but not the driving.
Basically, except for reds13 and harri (and the few random good turns by others), you see better slides with shopping carts in Publix...
**atleast for turn 1-2

yea but it want a competition really, im sure some of the ppl didnt wanna follow a good line, just show off with lots of smoke. Its not like most of the ppl watching know they are supposed to follow a good line. When I was down shooting, none of the photographers I was with really had a grasp on what drifting was.

Didnt see you on the track...
man, zing, you got me there didnt you. I'm sorry, I don't have to be on the track to be able to talk about it... go call up some sports announcers and be like, "durrr, i dont see you on the court, harharharhar" and i don't think i have EVER seen you on a 'drift' track, let alone SPGP.

i know it wasnt a competition, but whats the use in having track time if you dont do waht you 'should' be as a drifter, and they would've had more smoke if they had entered earlier (tires spin sooner, heat up sooner, start to smoke sooner).
i wasn't trying to say that they were the worst ever, but by no means are they much better (if at all) than some of the people we know from local events.
anyways, just forget it, i guess as long as you are invited to a special event, no one can say you aren't very good. GJ to the drivers, I aspire to be you one day, oh no i got my nose stuck now didn't i.

I dont know which turns they were but i was by the Play Station trailer. It looked awesome from there. All of the cars did good but the mustang was the most impressive. I talked to that guy and he said the car was just built and that he is from North Carolina. That is why we have not seen him around.

heres on board video inside the BMW, started drifting the turn only 200-300 feet before look at the braking marks on the track 400ft 300ft 200ft 100ft. Unable to deliver the smoke it normally creates since we were running on 5 cyl all weekend. nothing to do how early I entered. http://www.ter-tech.com/drifting/videos/LYHYT2006INDY.wmv

ok ok ok.... i was there, so im not TO into this but i like to watch it and have been to a few events myself, never a participant just a spectator, i have to say the cars looked good, the performance wasnt that great. only a few looked like they knew what they were doing. id have to agree with boxmod. andjust because he wasnt on the track doesnt mean he cant have a negative opinion. i think the average fan out there was either wow that was cool, or wow that was gay! personally, they sucked but a few had some good entries and maybe a combo here and there. next time ima show all u bitches how to drift with my Hummer PowerWheel! sccccccccccerrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

You guys with all the negative comments don't really understand what this event was.
Some powerful people within the IRL wanted to try incorporating drifting into the schedule and gauge fan reaction, if it was good then there possibly could be future events with more depth to them.
Most of the important people were located in the Jim Beam hospitality tent on teh outside of the turn-5 entry, so the organizer asked the drivers to try to focus on that part of the track. Also there was no reason to try to connect every single corner on the track.
Most of the drivers there had personal cars with no big name support to buy a new car and wrecking doesnt send a great message either. Out of 6 cars on track, 4 of them had minor encounters with the walls or tire barriers, no cars were totalled. Long Beach took what... like 12 cars in the same weekend, and they were only drifting 2 turns, St. Pete was full track.
And if you guys were expecting manji down the straightaways, I know first hand that a lot of the drivers were using the straights to as cool down time.
Harri pushed harder than anyone out there and came away with just tiny scrapes... the skill level of drivers at this event was pretty high, just they weren't competing for anything, so why put it all on the line??
Don't forget how narrow the track was in many areas, just watch the on-board video..... again people tend to be a lil more conservative when there is nothing to gain, everything to lose.....
As far as drivers not being sideways on the entries..... whoever says that must have narcolepsy because they weren't watching the same events everyone else was, again watch the in-car footage posted above.
I think the IRL got a huge response and we might see more events in connection with them. I personally wouldn't mind doing some infield roadcourses.

that was pretty cool. From the videos it looked like the bmw and 350z really had it. 350z had a nice looking connection on the on board. Are they going to host things like this often from now on?

We sure hope they will. We need to show our support to WDC on all the forums and the events and IRL will make it happen.
