My car audio recently went out... I think it has something to do with two cables in my trunk touching (there were formerly subs in there). The head unit gave off smoke and the speakers started popping until I turned them off. Now the head unit starts up and looks like its working fine, but no sound comes out.

I'm not much of an audio guy, i just wanted to know what you all thought i could do to fix this and just get me back some audio. Anythin ya'll can recommend to help, I'd appreciate it.

Do you have an aftermarket amp? Or is it just a deck? What wires in the back touched?

im willing to bet the RCA weres in the back touched ground and ran raw current through the amp in the headunit. The internal amp is probably fried. You may be able to puchase an aftermarket amp and use that to drive your speakers if the rca outputs arent burnt as well.

So i'm not sure which wires touched, but the RCA cables sound really likely cuz theyre just hanging there. The headunit is aftermarket... thats all i know about, so it sounds like its amp is burnt huh?

thanks guys

yeah RCAs touching any metal or any hot wire is a near 100% guarenteed way to destroy the internal amp. I'll sell you my kenwood MP4028 for 90$ :D
