Have never been to the Zephyrhills site and thinking of going to the PCA event on Sunday. I know the CFR is also in Brooksville that day, but I am not too thrilled about having to run my street-tired car in C-Prepared. Besides, Z-hills is closer.
Anyhoo, Is anyone else going?
Also, wondering if there are any shaded areas at the site, and if I need to bring my own water/lunch.

NOT GOING, i will be attending brooksville. There is no shade at all. They usually break for like an hour for lunch and let u leave, but juts incase i would take your own water and lunch. they do not provide lunch at all. You will more than likely be done by 2pm also.

I used to like running at zephyrhills, but since they installed the lights on the runway, I won't go back. I would go to Brooksville.

How are the lights to drive over? Disruptive?

idk...they have never really gotten in my way. they keep the coarse away from the lights. So it makes the coarse really open and no fun

I also like the Ft Myers events. But they are really open courses. If anything Id say Zeph hills is tighter due to space. I like the Z hills because its less $$ than SCCA since I am not a Member. And usually if you want to hang around after 3 you can do fun runs.

The lights won't get in your way, unless you spin. Then they can cause damage to your car.

Holy damn! I don't need that kind of pressure.
I've only run one event in this car, but it's twitchy and I'm still learning it. I'd probably hit one.

The only time some one ever hit one was while backing up Before the event ever started. The base portion is break away so it really doesnt damage the car. And if you dont break the light part its not as expensive. No I didnt hit one... But I was there when one was hit.
Also the course is designed so you are no where near the lights. Yes if you slid a few 100 feet you could get one but..
Plus the area that has the lights in nice new smooth blacktop..

1st time i was there i spun my car around twice on the inside of the coarse and never came close to the lights... I heard about the backing into one. i think i was at that event.

Oh, that's not as bad as I was thinking. The lights must be at the outer edges, or whatever.
PCA doesn't do pre-reg, do they? The site doesn't mention it...
I'd like to get some seat time this weekend, but I need an alignment badly. If anyone's got a place they'd recommend that could get it done in time, please let me know.

fuck alignments your just gonan throw it out. PCA doesn not do pre-redister, and the lights are in the middle of the runway.

The lights run down the center of the runway. I haven't seen anyone spin into them, but I wouldn't want to find out what happens if I did. Anyway, there are so many events around here, I won't be crying about skipping this one. :D

Haha, you don't understand. I've got nearly 3˚ of toe out in the front and my right rear is toed out about 3˚ too. The left rear is toed in about 1˚. Don't ask...
The rear bar is pretty stiff too, so all that makes for a very twitchy and unpredictable car. I just want to get the wheels all pointing more-or-less in the same direction.

oh u dont understand, my car is much worse. my rear camber is like 2 deg. out and i dont weven knwo what my toe is. I knwo my front toe is out and im not vene worried about the camber cuz of the camber plates.

Now we're just going to have to go and drive each other's cars to see which is worse!

For those of you that missed the PCA event. We had 23 drivers, got started a bit before 10.am I set up a .7 mile course, 2 boxes 3 slaloms, plus gates. The old surface was like Ice in the AM. The new blacktop was really fast. We did 5 runs per group, we were done by 12:30 . Then we about a dozen of us hung around and did 4 to 6 more fun runs each. I ended up with 10 runs for the day and getting my time down by 6 sec. Mainly due to the high wind blowing the old surface clean in the afternoon. Home by 4..
No close calls with lights. One very small spin out. Danny got FTD at 1:46. in A Boxter.
See every one at Brooksville for the Easter Sunday AutoX. we will hide eggs under the cones for Prizes..

sounds fun man. danny always runs FTD. @ Brooksville we ended up w/ 9 runs each. around 35 drivers or so. Was a decent event.

Hi Barry, I wanted to thank you for your help with the fun runs. I suspect we would not have gotten them without your input. I went out to shag cones at the end because I knew you were out there shagging, and not getting in your own fun runs.
I had it set in my head that I would NEVER go to a PCA event again, before we got the fun runs.
NO Bathrooms.
Surface Identical to driving on the Ice in Buffalo. WTF.
The fun runs totally made up for it though.
I shaved 2 seconds off my time on my first fun run.
That' what a tiny bit of traction will do for you.
I will be out there again (but with a broom).

i guess i wasnt really impressed wiht the Venue up there. There are some serious craters forming on the runway. I think imn going to stick wiht GCAC and drivign out to the east coast to Deland or IRCC for my scca points, then hit up z-hills PCA when i can for some seat time.

Yes it was really interesting how the surfaced changed after the wind blew away the sand. I really dont mind the 2 different surfaces, it gives you a chance to work on your skills in slippery and dry conditions all at the same time.. I was able to get another sec off my time on the Fun runs.
I think it will improve as we get to rainy season. The surface will be cleaner. Also since the autoX condinator is new there were a few issues. RE Port A lets. But Ill give them a break, as long as it dosent become consistant.
Thanks for helping out on the funs runs.
As for SCCA vs other events. Me and my GF both drive. And the extra 10 bucks that SCCA charges. OR the joining the club get to be expensive when its multiplied by 2 persons. The Ft myers events I like but its a 2 hour drive. And the tuck only gets 14 MPG when towing the car. I know what it costs to put on an event at Brooksville. BMWCCA only charges $25 and that includes lunch. I know there are things out of the local chapters controle since SCCA is a national Org. And 9 runs is impressive. SO I am not complaining. Just stating my opinion.

scca membership was only like $75. Then u are allowed to run national and pro-solo. On top of that u get all kinds of kool shit.

I was SCCA last year. But since I mainly do BMW events and I also race motorcycles. there wasnt enought free weekends to also do the SCCA events.
Plus my GF also drives. So to do 2 SCCA memberships. Plus the $30 per event times 2 really adds up. I can do a PCA event for $20.. or the BMW for $25 with no member fees. The points for SCCA dont matter because I would not be able to make enough events to become competative.
BMWCCA does 10 events in the year. The other 2 months I can do a PCA or Ft Myers events.
Plus we are at Jennings www.jenningsgp.com (http://www.jenningsgp.com) one weekend a month out on the cycles. So I guess it depends on priorities.
Nothing against SCCA. I like their events, I just have enought other things to choose from. And not enough time.

SCCA member pirce for brooksville was only $20. get married and do a joint mebership for like $100..hahaha But i see what your saying and understand completly.
