Default diferential switch?

my friend was talkin to me about a system that you can install that lets you lock and unlock the defferentials with the turn of a switch, do the really make that? and if they do how much does it cost and how hard is it to install?

never heard of that????? i know the 89 and 90 240's do it. i know there is a fuse for the shift lock. idk, i'll ask around.

does this mean the axels would have lockable hubs like a 4x4?

thats for all automatic transmisson S13's, it locks the gear shifter in park when the keys are out and the steering wheel has been locked

It's called an air locker, or sometimes people use the brand name 'detroit locker' to refer to them all.

There is probably someone who makes one for the older Nissan pickups that share the r200 differential.

When it is 'locked' it is truly locked, like a welded diff. I never thought about it, but it would be kinda cool to have a welded diff that you can turn off and on. welded diffs work great for drifting if you dont mind the initial understeer they create, (I say adjust the car to have some natural oversteer anyway).

A lot of people dont realize that a huge number of roadrace cars use basically a welded diff or a spool.
