If I want to install a regular AC/DC electronic (Playstation) in my car without using a cigarette lighter adapter, what do I need to do? Im assuming I need to attach it directly to the battery but Im also sure theres a lot more detail than that. What if the cord isnt long enough, positve or negative terminal, etc.?

Buy a power inverter, make sure the wattage rating and and amp rating are enough to handle the playstation. The make ones you can plug in your cig lighter or ones you can wire to your battery or another 12 volt source.

You need a power converter no matter what. If you don't want one that plugs into your cig. lighter, you can either simply cut the cord, extend the leads and hardwire it to your battery or buy a converter that is already made to be wired directly to your battery. Definetly don't try to wire your Playstation directly to the battery, because I can assure you it won't work.

It is possible to directly wire the PS2 by using a dc/dc transformer which will simply regulate the power supply however it would require building the regulator and bypassing the PS2's power supply. I don't recommend undertaking the project unless you have a fairly decent amount of boadwork under your belt.
