I have a 350 4bbl that i pulled from my 78 blazer a while back. its been sitting in the corner of my garage up in ohio. its complete from carb to oil pan. it ran when i pulled it, but the carb was shot. I have a guy who is offering $100 sight-unseen. i know 302's are going for $300-$400, why wouldnt a 350 be in the same ballpark? this IS out of a 1/2 ton truck, so im hoping its a 4 bolt main, but i cant besure since it is "only" a half-ton.

what do you guys think? i was planning on going back up to ohio to get my Trans Am, this complete 350, my disassembled 7K2 pontiac 400 and unassembled SBC 406 short block.

thanks
chris

It's a '78 and out of a Blazer, so it's about the lowest performance 350 you're going to see. I'd take the $100 and run!

Chevy was still using 4 bolts in some trucks in 78. I wouldnt know how to identify it without dropping the pan.

Honestly I've had a few small block 350's all running 150 - 200 shot and i can't really tell the difference in durability between the two. I mean i know alot of people say the 4 bolt is stronger.. but i dont see it . Is that why everyone like the 4 bolt main so much?

Having a 4 bolt is just bragging rights. Unless you put some stupid power down, a 2 bolt main'll hold the crank in.

a 2 bolt main can hold power trust me.my 327 made well over 700hp and i used a 2 bolt main.

but i might of had one of them gm freak blocks:lol:

Wow, if I was gonna make a 700 hp 350 chevy, it sure wouldnt be a 2 bolt. I'm not saying that it couldnt hold 700 hp, but shit how long could it last?

So do we officially have a 2 bolt vs. 4 bolt war started? :D

yes we do...i was crazy for pushing my 327 that fair..but i seen 4 bolts go over 850hp and splayed 4 bolts go into the 900 range.it all depends on parts your using, the tune up and other things...but do NOT DO NOT try it with a 400 block.u will just be picking up your parts off the line..the webbing in the mains are not as strong as a 350 they are only good for 800 with splayed billet main caps, filled to the freeze plugs with balanced parts and a soft tune.

Same thing is said about the 383/440 Mopars engines. Why bother with a 383, when you can get so much more out of a 440. Basically the same motor, the 440 is a little taller deck, but soooooo much better to build. I did my 383 because I'm a poor SOB and it's the matching motor, but if I was gonna build something serious, def. be a 440 or a 426.

yeah i wish they would have made the small blocks as strong as the big blocks.i seen 454 4 bolt main blocks take 1400hp..but yet the small blocks are only good to 900 with a shit load of work.

i'm a small block guy.i've been finding aluminum blocks lately cheap so i may just do one of them.nothing like a 350 pound 900 hp monster of a small block
