the car is getting crappy voltage when the afc is connected, but then when i disconnect it, the car can run with the battery disconnected. whats wrong? is it something with the mas?

what??? your car should always run with the battery disconnected. unless your afc is making your car idle extremely low and the alternator isnt charging at that low of rpm. Sounds like a weird problem.
You know who to call..... GHOSTBUSTERS!!!

ok i dont think its anything to do with the mas or afc. i think its just cause it idles higher when i disconnect those. ok so dont worry about the afc or MAS. what else would it be...its NOT the alternator. its been tested and puts out the right amount. not the wiring, i hooked up a volt meter and it was getting power all thru the wires

screw the autozone alternators, i dont think the guy ever put the thing under the right load. im just gonna get one i know is good and see if that works
Discount Auto or eh Advance Auto Parts is your friend lol. I got my alternator from them when I had my 1g. So I'm guessing you narrow it down to being the alternator?

I find your first post confusing. Let's try to clear it up.
The voltage coming from the alternator is low when the AFC is hooked up. What voltage does it put out?
The voltage goes back to normal, around 14 volts, when the AFC is disconnected.
Ok, what are the settings on your AFC? The only connections I can see are wiring problems with the AFC shorting something or a similar problem, or the correction on the AFC making the car die out and idle too low.
What is it idling at when the voltage is too low? Have you set your idle properly recently?

i actually got it from advance...but they test it and are like yea its fine blah blah, but my friend said that they said that for his but they sucked, like when its cold it gets good volts like 13 but then after a little it goes down to like 11.5, then it spikes up for a couple seconds. i checked the wiring to the battery, and i dont know what else it could be

well, i dont think it has anything to do with the afc, i think it was only because it raised the idle when i disconnected it, and it idles around 1k normally.
When I got the alternator I was at 13-14 voltage. They have warranty so you can always take it back and get another one. I think it has nothing to do with the afc. On the 1g that I replaced the alternator I had the afc2 and voltage was fine. Something is up with your alternator it seems like. Are your lights dimming in and out?
Or I may be wrong... could this be a sign of idle surge? Eh, still lost on whats going on. But I'm trying to help.

ok, when the afc is connected, the mas is connected and all making it idle lower, but when i disconect the afc it disconnects the mas which makes it idle higher, putting out enough where i can run the car without a battery. i cant read volts when i disconnect the afc, so i was just thinkin because it would run with the afc disconnected, but i wasnt think of how it idles higher. i think its the alt, but when discount tests it, they say its fine

we tested the alternator while the car was running and it was only putting out 12.3v or something like that.

also his throttle cable was a litte loose and as we moved it made a spark against the braket it mounts to, which seems a little odd to me.

well, we cant test how much the alternator puts out under load while its on the car if theres a draw somewhere, and yes the lights DO dim in and out, and i was gettin like 9.8 volts on the highway and then all of a sudden gettin like 12 somethin for a few seconds, then back down.
