there are only 4 bolts that bolt the tranny to the block. the front ear where the bolt screws into on the block is broken off.

You could get it welded, but you might fatique the metal with it.

I haven't heard of good results welding it back on. Some people run a really long bolt through a hole drilled through the engine mount. That's kind of ghetto, but it might be the only option. You could try having it welded first if you want, but it might break back off. It's under a lot of stress.

well i have a bolt welded to a flat piece of metal with a hole drilled in the flat piece of metal and its mounted behind the front motor mount braket. but if i can get it fixed i would rather do that.

only 3 bolts hold the 6 bolt to the tranny, 7 bolt uses 4 bolts.. good luck fixin it up..

:dunno: As many 6 bolts that I've owned, I pretty sure its 4 bolts. 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom. Maybe wrong but its been a while since I've pulled one out. Its actually been a year this month. 3 bolts wouldn't be that much support for the tranny I would think. Hopefully someone can clarify this.

you are correct there are 4 bolts that hold the tranny to the block. one on the back side, two on the top, and one on the front by the front motor mount.

Yeah, I think he's forgetting the small one in back or something. Can't do that, though, it throws the tranny out of alignment and kills clutch discs, as well as breaking front ears off the block.

If you dont know what you are talking about please dont post.

There are definitely 4 bolts holding the tranny on.
You could weld it back on but if you still have factory motor mounts your engine will still move alot and there is a good chance it will break again.
I know of some one who welded theirs and it has held up so far but its a track car with solid mounts.
I would give welding it a try just make sure the welder knows what he is doing.

Did it break off when you had it, or before you got it? Make sure you have all the tranny dowels, and make sure the alignment bushings that go around the front and back bolt are in the block all the way when you put the tranny in. No sense fixing it if the same problem that broke it in the first place is still there.

Try to find a welding shop with a tig and the ability to heat the work. I don't know if they can safely heat the block hot enough but they could get it to ~230-240 at least. When they weld cast iron manifolds they heat them a lot hotter and then weld them, then cool the metal slowly. I'd call around to shops in the phone book and tell them what you want done, and see if you find one that sounds competent.
