ok TR i need your help. Has anyone ever changed a starter in a 3800 series impala? The reason i ask is my girls went out tonight but the bad thing is she lives in Orlando, so i was wondering how easy is it to get to so that way i know what im gtting myself into. Any info would be greatly apriciated. Thanks

On the front of the motor. A little below the front exhuast manifold. Disconnect all the wires going to it. Only two long bolts hold it on. Pretty easy to do. The tricky part is manuvering it out of the engine bay. It really depends on how much room you have. Some people can just drop it out from the bottom or else you are going to have to bring it out from the top of the engine bay.

if its a 3.8, or even an 3.4, you might not make it out the top. both should come out the bottom pretty easily. its been a while, but i dont remember them being difficult.

96 hu? did it have the 3.4 dohc motor? The Z34's did. I'm guessing his was an LS since it says 31 in his name. LS's came with 3.1 liters. He did an L67 swap, a Supercharged 3.8L engine. I'm on the same path and puting a Supercharged topend on my NA 3.8L.

I had a 96 w/ 3.1L those and the 3.8 are just unstopable. The 3.4 Dohc was garbage.

yeah changing the starter is cake walk. if you jack the car up its right there under the exhaust manifold.
