I am considering buying a 02 WRX wagon. Anything I should look for in particular? As far as I know its just got a UP, DP and Vishnu reflash.

I dont know too much about subies so any help would be great.

thanks

scotti have an 02' sedan i love the body but we have to be careful/drivetrain imo is very weak do some research on these tranny's:that is depending on the way u like to drive. if not welcome its def not a bad choice! mantra had a very fast wagon, enjoy and welcome to the awd.;)

I take it there are plenty of upgrades for the weak parts of the drivetrain?

thanks

There are plenty of people who have had no problems with their WRX transmissions. I know a girl who got a WRX for her first car and drove the hell out of it for 100,000+ miles with no problems. It is a little on the weak side, but as long as you aren't adding significant amounts of power to the car, or performing harsh launches, you should be fine.

What were you looking to spend on a WRX?

Either way, learn to launch the car right and how to shift the car and I'm sure you'll be fine. Seems folks tend to try and drive this car like a FWD, etc. You shouldn't be DUMPING the clutch and slamming gears. Have some finesse and you'll be fine.

I've known personally of 3 other WRX's that have broken their tranny and either gotten it rebuilt (one) or replaced (the other two). The thing is they all had modified their cars to get STi-type power out of them, and then drove them hard. Taking into consideration the mods you listed you should probably negotiate down on the price to compensate for the possibility of rebuilding the tranny. Or just try and find a stock one and treat it nice.

i wouldnt go with vishnu at all. id go with cobb by far. also yea i would go with some bellmouth downpipe first and exhaust and then uppipe n ecu/or however ud like. they really are great rides (i have an 06 white wrx/5 spd) and my bro has a 02 blue wrx automatic. i really DONT think they are bad choices at all and great cars bro. as long as u dont drive like an idiot ur good and dont launch the hell out of the car.most important modd =DRIVER. also i prefer subaru compared to others like especially mitsubishi's because of the warrenty issue. subaru people are VERY modd friendly which is great. again id say go for the subaru bro

as long as you don't dump the clutch bouncing off the revlimiter or slam it into 2nd gear every chance you get the tranny's are fine.

I have 123k+ on my stock tranny. I just replaced my clutch at 114k miles. I have had an 18g and now a 20g with no tranny problems. Then again I do not abuse the tranny, just the handling. :)
