Turbo that SER!

if im not mistaken the spc auto-x is the 4th.
i see that it is open to non members for 40 bucks....do these spots usually go quickly or do you think they would have room?
another thing i know some of the rules such as battery tie down etc. but i have a slight oil/powersteering leak...its nothing major maybe a small drip here or there....will they still let me run?
and anyone with experience in these events...it will be my first event...how many runs do u usually get...
and also any pointers for a n00b would be appreciated.
thanks guys.

The event is Saturday, April 8. It's on the TR Autox Event Schedule (http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/auto-x-road-racing/241818-autocross-driving-event-schedule.html).
Keep your eye on the NASA-X Florida (http://www.nasaxflorida.com) website for the announcement when registration opens and you can pre-register. Yes, it's $40 for non-members. Yes, there are usually still slots available to register the day of the event, but if you can pre-register you should.
We try for a minimum of 6 runs at NASA events. Often we will do 7 or 8.
First-time autocrosser info is not hard to find. Check the sticky posts here on the forum for some. There's some on the NASA-X Florida website:
Car Prep (http://nasaxflorida.com/srnovcar.cfm)
Driver Prep (http://nasaxflorida.com/srdrivprep.cfm)
Those are the basic novice tips. If you look on the website under "About Our Events", you'll find advanced tips, as well.
A very minor oil leak is not a big deal. Might be a good idea to clean up as much as possible before you come out (or maybe even try to fix the leak?) to minimize the potential for drippage.

I've tried to access those links and nasaxflorida.com several times over the last few days and it hasn't worked once. What's going on with the site?

The site is sometimes slow. And, like all websites, it may be down from time to time. But, I just checked and it's there. Try it again.

It's got to be something specific to my connection or something. I'll try it at school.

The site finally worked for me. I found the classing rules- holy crap. I totalled up 56 points and there's going to be another 10-15 before this year is done. All that and my car doesn't even handle very well and isn't all that fast. Puts me in B for now, A with one more mod basically. Well, I'll just have to be happy 20 seconds behind on a minute course .

Oh cool. Another car in B! Indeed a rare breed.

It doesn't matter, screw it. I was just talking to a friend of mine and he wants to go out too. On his car we basically added the whole column and then took one out here and there because most of them applied to his car . I'll just go on modding the way I want to, completely ignore any autox classing rules because I'm not going out there to be competitive anyway, and go have fun running way behind in A class, or EXDP-whatever prepared and not worry about it.

That's what I basically do, except I mod towards rally rules. With my race tyres, I add up to 37 points, and I'll probably have another 10 by the end of May. That's not even with the twin-scroll project I'm trying to plan out

That's the way to go, IMO.
Compete against your previous best run of the day, not other people.

You don't need to "compete" so much as find someone consistent to "compare" yourself with. It's hard to know how well you're doing without a benchmark. Pick someone who is consistent (preferably in a similar car) and use them to gauge how you're doing. Even if your 2 seconds back from them... as you improve, you'll start reeling in on that 2 seconds.

May I recommend someone change the title of this thread before a bunch of people get the wrong date (assuming they don't read the whole thread)?

I've been meaning to do that. Thanks for the reminder.
