Im pretty good with installaing radios and shit but i was just asked by a friend to install his pioneer deck into his 93 maxima. The trick is he has the stock bose system in there. i did some research and find that he will need a whole new wire harness because bose has a different version. is that true? i went to install doctor and his information is only for the 93 maxima without the stock bose system so that wasnt much help. i have to do this tomm. so if yall can help me in any way please let me know.

that is a total rewire!!!!!do they even make a dask kit for that?

you can get all power from factory deck, i would get my own ground from chasis, then run new wires to all speakers,

are those powered speakers in that car?
if not you can find factory amp, run wires to amp and use factory wires from amp to speakers,
if they are you may be able to use the wires going to speakers but will have to replace speakers with aftermarket..

if you dont want to do it will, just pm me

do they even make a dash kit for that?
i think that is custom ... or special order

you may be able to power up the factory system and cut a pair of rca's and plug them new radio and feed signal thru factory wires to factory amp.

i would do the rewire if it was mine

The Bose speakers are going to be an impedance...usually 3ohm. If you are going to do a complete rewire then it would be a good idea to replace the speakers at the same time. You will have the entire car apart and with speakers that old they are due.

But you can do it without a rewire. You can turn the bose amps on and feed them a low level signal. Several companies make adaptors you could use also. Peripheral has a part available...model number SVHNI1. It is made for Nissans with Bose and does not require a rewire.

Personally I installed aftermarket radios with Bose systems hundreds of times with no problems using both adaptors or cut RCA cables. You can do that. But due to the age of the car I would put in new speakers and rewire the system. You will get the most of of the stereo that way.

A rewire isn't absolutley necessary if you power up the amp, but you're going to notice that the volume control maxes out way before usual. Bugs some people, but most don't really mind.

Rewire is the best thing to do...Bose speakers...at least in the new systems are all 1 ohm speakers. The speakers you will be buying for aftermarket replacements are probably 4 ohm therefor cutting the amps efficiency to 1/4 of what it was. Rewire the system because your new headunit will put out more power than that bose amp will.

He wasn't buying aftermarket speakers. It was just a deck install.

I just did an 03 mazda 6 and the bose system is 2ohm not 1ohm.

I wasn't saying they were all 1 ohm lol...just stating that most factory upgraded systems run at 1 ohm now. Not ALL are there yet. Also, I was trying to tell him that he needs to rewire or its going to sound like shitty...and aftermarket speakers should be used because those speakers are paper and over 10 years old. Thats all...but thanks for the info on the 2 ohm in that car.

My bad, we all agree - scrap the bose, rewire.
