Having problems with tweeters...

i bought a 500 watt tweeter today and for the first 10 mins it was fukking loud and then it blew.....i had it hooked up with 5 10"s and a 1000 watt amp turned half way up. i think i going to give up on tweeters cuz i cant seem not to blow them. ive went thew prolly 5 sets of tweeter and a set of horns...

gimme some ideas .......

First off, tweeters need to be on crossovers, they're designed to play only higher frequencies and as a result, if you give it a full range signal, it's going to blow. Second, I've never seen a 500w tweeter. Look into a real component system (mid woofer, tweeter, and crossover). Combine it with an applicable 2 or 4 channel amp.

I saw one that was damn close, once. I think it was a Gauss, or one of those studio brands. Giant horn loaded, titanium dome. The thing mounted in like a 6 inch hole, and weighed about 25 lbs. I think it was good for 400 rms.

So, 500w, autosound tweeter? Probably not. I've seen a couple advertised like that before, but they were piezo's...not really speakers. Good news is they do handle a lot of power, and don't need a crossover (impedance already varies by frequency). Bad news is that they sound like crap, and can kill an amp, due to the aforementioned impedance which varies by frequency.

Well, I see two problems right off the top. First being a Boss product...they're the bottom of the barrel as far as car audio goes, if you know what I mean. Second, yeah, 1000w is waaaaay too much to feed any tweeter or component system. And judging from all the stuff you have running off this amp, I'm surprised the amp itself hasn't shit a brick as well. What kind of amp is it? Is it mono, 2 channel, or 4 channel?

Like I said earlier, start from scratch, get rid of all your odds and ends you have running off that amp. Pick up an actual component system, preferably a decent brand. Then look into a good small 2 channel amp (or 4 if you want to hook rears up as well) that does about 50 to 100w rms per channel. You won't be blowing things anymore, and your system will sound 10x better.

God that's too nice of a truck to be running that kind of system. I was expecting it to be in some 1970's rust bucket or something. Trying to help someone out who's obviously somewhat interested in car audio, you should start from scratch. Horns, bullet tweeters, and 10" mids have no place in car audio. And more speakers does not mean it's going to sound better. The factory speakers in the doors probably sound better than everything you have hooked up in there.

You probably could salvage the amp you already have (that is if it has a low pass crossover built into it), pick up a couple actual 10 or 12" subs to run off it. But the other speakers should honestly be trashed. Go out, buy some nice 5x8 coaxial speakers to replace the factory speakers in the doors. Buy a decent 4 channel amp to run them all, and you've actually got yourself a system.

I hate to say it, but basically everyone knows what 1 thing an audio hardware company is good for. Boss may suck in a lot of departments but they make some pretty decent amps and thats about it. stay away from tweeters unless its part of a component system, and always list things by RMS pwr..peak is so full of crap.

for subs on your truck you dont need that much power since its a smaller space (unless you have a big, extended cab sort of truck) since they'll be right behind you.

Just listen to TBspyder's reccomendation, thats really all you should be running.

The truck in question is actually a nice newer lifted f150 4 door I believe. But the wiring and system is just as bad. If anyone is going to argue that some mismatched 1980's 10" mids sound "good" and a nightmare of tangled second hand wires is trustworthy...it's not even worth the conversation. There's alot of people in this forum who could help put together an actual system, but ignorance is bliss.

I know the ranger isn't anything great but its looks, runs, and sounds so much better than his truck ever will.
