I have a stock '89 Trans Am GTA that needs an engine. If I had any sense I'd just junk it and get something else but it has sentimental value so before I do that I want to at least get some estimates on what it would cost to replace the engine.
I might just want a rebuild with some upgrades, or I might want to swap in a crate motor. In either case, I need a turnkey job, because I live in an apartment and anyways I gave up working on cars yaers ago. So I need a *good* shop, no hacks, no clueless, someone who can deal with modded TPI engines correctly. I want factory-quality work.
Is there anyone in the Tampa Bay area that can do that? St. Pete preferred, but I would travel up to 100 miles for the right shop.
Thanks for any leads.

They are in Brandon off 60. They specialize in GM performance.

Crate motor might be cheaper plus they come with warranties, but you cant really modify them. Might be able to do roller rockers and a ported intake or better intake, but nothing much else.
But to keep the value and orginality to the car, its better off to rebuild the current motor. Always toss in a 383 stroker kit, nice little cam and do a better intake with it.

How many shops do you need to do the swap? :)

Only need one, wanted to see if there were more alternatives. No disrespect intended to revextreme.
I've been crunching some numbers and I'm leaning towards selling this one as a project for someone and just buying an LS1 car.
Thanks again to all for the replies. Even with a newer LS1 I'm going to need a shop and it seems that revxtreme can do what's needed.

If you do decied to get rid of the car let us know. Back in the day we bought most of the Trans Ams,Formulas, Z 28,s and Irocs that went through the salvage auctions. Doing tone of tpi conversions and many other things. We are no longer doing them but as asid above if you do want it gone shoot us a pm. It would have a good home.
