Im about to buy a really good condition 74 celica rwd with what im told the first 5-speed transmission to be released in an import in the u.s. it has a stock remanufactured motor from that year with only 17,000 miles on it. I found almost direct bolt on instructions for a 3egte swap I wanted to know if a 3sgte would fit and if anyone had any info on any type of engineswap for this car. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

well if its a 74 it has a 18r in it. so you could do the 18rg swap with no problems. or you coulod go with the newer 22r block with 20r head and some nasty cam and 10.5to1 compression and ride out. you need to stay old school though. you could do a 3sgte swao but plan on spending alot of money.

1GGTE, 3TGTE, etc.. there's lots of possibilities.

Go to their forums and spend a good 5 or 6 hours going through the member rides forum. It is INSANE what some of these guys have put in old Celicas among other cars. One of the really cool late-model swaps is a 3rd gen 3SGTE into a Rav4.

I know I did because I needed money for a 300hp celica that I bought.

lol all the oldschool motors just plain out dont make the power.... my 76 celica ran a 13.8.... but with what i had invested in the 22r/20r hybrid... just not worth it. 18rgs are rediculouly expecnive and still DONT MAKE THE POWER. personally, my celicas is getting a 7mgte... but ive got a little more length under the hood than u... it would be a tight fit for sure, you'd have to move the radiator forward a few inches and run electric fans... its geting a 3sgte in the mean tiem because thats been donated... but for the most part... the 3s is a difficult swap to do the right way. if u need any info IM me at twinturbo55 or head on over to www.classic-celica.com

oh and for a cool swap check out this months TPR if u can find it in the magazine store.... andy vang's f20c powered 71 celica is in there
