just buy an already rwd car. trust me. yes you can take out the front axle's and have a ghetto rwd car. but do you really think the stock rear end can hold 100% of the power especially while drifting and putting even more stress on those parts. look at mranlet's legacy he has broken more shit on his car then i can count, then he finally decided to put a nissan diff and custom axles in it, so you get my point. you could do it for 25k but why the hell would you want to.

just buy a base model GTS or something, drop in a Sr20 and convert it all to rwd. Should be easily doable for under $15k

For 25k you can have a modified Alltrac , and a well put together car for drifting , and probably a daily driver. So i wouldn't see why you would spend 25k on just the alltra. For 25k i'd sell the alltrac, put that money ontop of the 25k, and buy a MKIV Supra

nah the motor is in the rear of a mr2 making it transverse as well .. i think basemodel celica to cut up and make rwd would be your best bet

Well if you really want to do it I'll give you my advice from a Formula D legal standpoint.
The car must be either RWD or AWD originally, so you have to start with an all-trac.
The car must not have alterations to the firewall or transmission tunnel other than banging them out, no cutting and enlarging, or custom tunnel.
So now you have to either weld the center diff and run a front engine transverse setup with the stock rear drivetrain portion, or you can run a rear mount transmission and a longitudinal engine in front.
I would go for the longi. mount engine and rear mount tranny from a Porsche or C5 vette. Porsche 944, 928 and 968 trannies would work, as well as Boxster. The 911 transmission will work also but will have to be flipped to run the wheels the right direction. Any Porsche race shop knows how to do this. G50 is a good gearbox but expensive, C5 is probably your best bet.
You will have to modify your rear subframe to accomodate the transmission but retain the subframe, do not make a new one entirely because then it could violate FormulaD rules. Obviously you will need custom halfshafts.
If you go for the transverse original engine then I think the only part that would need reinforcing is the driveshaft maybe. The Toyota axles should be able to handle the load as long as you dont run crazy wide rear tires, and the transmission was designed to take big loads because AWD usually doesnt spin tires, so all of the engines torque get transmitted into the tranny. Most AWD trannies are pretty strong (other than some DSM ones).
Hope that helps,
-Sean
