So just the other day I started hearing this obnoxious roar coming from under the hood. Right away I realized it was the fan. On cold mornings it would occasionally do this but now it is constantly roaring and there is a huge power loss in my TrailBlazer. Sometimes, if I really get on the gas and get it up to about 4,500 rpm it will kick off and the power will come back but if I just drive normally the fan is ROARING obnoxiously. Does this mean that the clutch in the fan is gone? Any input is appreciated.

Sounds like the clutch went bad.

Can just the clutch be replaced or does it have to be the whole fan and clutch assembly? It's under warranty but I've got a $175 deductable for the warranty. (I knwo that's shitty). So if I could replace it for less than $175 I'll just do that.

they are still puting those old things in new cars? look Trash the shitty clutch drive fan and get a dual fan setup that will work on your truck, look into a 4th camaro/firebird dual fan setup. Not only by going to dual electric fan will your truck run cooler, but you will see a 5-15 hp gain from taking out that shitty 1950's technology.

I dont think you can get just the clutch. I think you have to buy the whole fan assembly. Electric fans would be a good replacement though. It robs less power from the motor and work better.

You could use something like that but youd have to wire it all up and find a temp sensor that works, etc... You can buy the electric fan kits as long as you know the deminsions that will fit. They come with the wiring and sensor already.

f the temp sensor, wire the little fan to run as soon as you turn the key and get a switch for the big fan, so when you are towing, racing or what ever you can turn the big one on!

Well I'm contemplating taking it to the dealer. I have a warranty and the whole job, new fan + labor will cost me $175. Just an electric fan alone will cost me like $200. So I'm undecided. I better do something before it burns up though.

If you have a warrenty, have the dealer fix it.

I think that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for the input guys but I'll just have the dealer fix it for now.
