Leaving Applebees tonight off of Hillsborough Ave by Dale Mabry, myself, kyle, brad, corey and missy witnessed a terrible bike accident.
A man was on a suzuki bandit 1200 on the right hand lane heading east. A woman in a red minivan ran a stop sign turing right onto hillsborough ave. He had no where to go. I still have the sound and image in my head. The severe downshift... the crash and the sight of him flying in one direction and his bike in the other. Our night was spent on the side of the road talking to the police and trying to get in contact with his family. He was hit so hard that his jacket and shoes flew off. As soon as the paramedics got him on the stretcher he flat lined and died in route to St. Joes.
He was not wearing a helmet. I can not stress the importance of a helmet. The blood was oozing from his ears and mouth because of severe head trauma. It is highly likely that he would still be with us today, had he been wearing a helmet. PLEASE.. PLEASE.. wear your helmets when you are riding
We did not know the man. We assume he was 47 from what we could gather at the scene. We all went to walmart bought a wreath and a candle which are now set on the side of the road by the accident. Please say a prayer for him and his family. This is a sight I never want to see again. I can not stress again, please please wear your helmet. You may not think you ride crazy but its always going to be that one time, just like tonight.
To Kyle, Brad, Corey and Missy: Thank you.
If you dont have an ICE(in case of emer) number stored in your cell phone, try to do that as well. God forbid the police ambulance or fire dept need to use it, but if they do, it is there and much easier for them to contact your loved ones.
