Audio Geniuses I need your HELP PLEASE

OK i hooked up a new head unit/cd player and a used amp and subs....Now when the headunit is set to FM radio the amp works fine and the subs work, but when i hit the CD button on the cd player the amp autimatically shuts off and the subs stop.. .The cd player is brand new but the subs and amp are not.anyone know the problem?
