Default Merkur xr4ti help

need a little help for a friend. he's trying to swap his merkur from auto to 5-speed. hewas told that the driveshafts were the same but they're not. so now he's got it all bolted up and no driveshaft. he plans on removing the t9 trans soon and wants to put in a t5 when he upgrades the turbo. what are his options as far as a drive shaft go? he would rather get one that will be able to be used in both the t9 and t5 tranny if possible. is there a one peice conversion that he can do? any help will be appriciated.

my buddy has a merkur and is using a turbo coupe driveshaft, and t-5 you have to get a 3/4 spacer for the tranny

yeah but will the turbo coupe driveshaft work on a t9? maybe he'll just have to have this one shortened.

I have read on some web sites that there is a drive shaft adapter that is made so you can use a mustang drive shaft it is probably the same or close to the thunder bird shaft there is also a tranny conversion crossmember I have seen them for 135.00 I dont know how much the drive shaft adapter is I believe the adapter and a used mustang shaft is cheaper than having one made. I am going to put a c-4 in mine. it takes the same conversion parts. as far as the driveshaft adapter and drive shaft. I am just waiting for the c-3 to break

cool i just tell him to have his shortened for now. he wants to use the t9 for now then swap out to a better t5. he just wants to make sure the car works as it should when it's stock then start to mod it. hopefully the trans will last till he puts in the t5.

for some reason I think Rales has it that way.. best to PM him...

I have a completly custom drive shaft. Your best bet is one out of a thunderbird, aerostar, or some other similar vehical that has the correct splin count. Once you get one either get a spacer or cut it down. Bilbo, yours I beleive is a cut down thunderbird one, or its a cut down mustang one.
