I was going to extend the wires, but i got looking, and most the wires ran back into the inside of the car anyways, so i cut them at the fuse box, grouped them in red/blue, reds went passenger side to cabin, blues went drives side to cabin, so i unwrapped the harnesses, and pulled the cut wires out, then re-wrapped the much smaller harnesses.

pretty much every wire from the fuse box went back tot he cab, minus a few head light wires, and from there I just soldered them all back to the fuse box inside....

my problem right now is the starter/alternator/battery. I am relocating the battery to the hatch, so i still need to run the battery wire to the starter, and take all the remaining wires to the fuse box (tranny sensors, alternator, starter, oil sender).

I made a new harness for all of these from the glove box to the engine bay, and i began soldering them to the wires, but my soldering gun broke, and the wires are not really good looking, they are all tangled all over the place, and i cant figure out how to get them all to this harness, and look good at hte same time ;[

so did you basically just cut the fuse box out of your engine bay...put it inside, then try to reconnect all the wires to the right colors? You explained it good, im just having a hard time visualizing how you ran the "sub harnesses" after you seperated them into blue and reds. Any pics?

I'd like to see some pics of this process. I've considered doing this, but everything I've seen has a sil front (which eliminates half a dozen pop-up relays) and a rear battery. I am keeping my stock front, and want to keep a stock location battery. I know I can do this without a problem, but I really want to know from experience how big this task is.

mine is RHD with no popups lol.

I am not sure how the fuse boxes differ, I think the popups have a seperate fuse/relay box under the air filter box.

as far as the main engine bay fuse/relay box goes, there are wires joining it from 2 diffrent directions, and a couple wires that go their own ways. The majority of the wires go from the box, under the radiator, through the fender(i think) and to the cab, thile the other handfull, go the other way into the cab. I cut the wires from these 2 catergories and started unwrapping the harnesses going both ways, and pulled the wires out. Then i re-wrapped them. When wires from both sides got to the firewall, I wrapped them all together, and sent them into the wheel well, and then through the rubber piece into the car, and under the glovebox, where i soldered them back to the fuse panel.

Keeping the battery up front would probably be easier, because the alternator and starter are right there, aswell as that being 2 less wires you have to route.

The other wires that did not fall in the bulk of the engine harness were the oil sending unit, some tranny sensors, and misc wires from the alternator/starter.

My harness was pretty fucked though, cause of the swap and whatever else was done. I think if I was able to, anyone can, because my relays were moved all into 1 box to make room, and it was a bitch looking them up in the FSM. I am not done though, and when my car does not start, it will be a whole other story.

"When my car doesn't start..." come on man...have some self confidence. It doesn't seem too hard to do, I'm not too shabby with electrical though; I just gotta find the time to do it. are you taking pics? I'll do a write up for everybody.

I was going to snap some pics before, but i thought that no one would be interested, and i didnt want to show off my lack of skill.

This is my first time soldering...ever...and i have a feeling I didnt really do it textbook, or close to right whatsoever. I hope there isnt any severe attenuation because of bad connections, but i figure even a poor solder attempt is better than butt connectors? Hopefully using too much isnt too bad, i tried to use it correctly, but you know how those things go.

Next weekend we will find out. I wish i could quite my job for a month to get some real work done.

Yea, soldering takes a little while to get real good at and figure out what exactly the solder wants to do, just make sure your gun is nice and hot. Are you just using electrical tape to bundle it? or are you using loom or what?
