The new camaro is pretty much offical as of this morning I'd say..Just got this e-mail today...FYI, Scott was/is in charge of the Camaro program for GM.

Subject: Seasons Greetings from Scott..........

"...The name Camaro..........means pal, friend, or comrade......Thus, it
suggests the real mission of our new automobile........to be a close
companion to its owner, tailored to reflect his or her individual tastes
and at the same time provide exciting personal
transportation.....Chevrolet
has chosen a name which is lithe, and graceful, in keeping with our
other
names beginning with C. It suggests the comradeship of good friends
............as a personal car (http://nethrov.com/?v3&v0=48&go=car&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044) should be to its owner...."

The quote above comes from Eliot M. (Pete) Estes -- then General Manager
of
Chevrolet Motor Division.......in remarks he made after announcing that
Chevrolet would build a new car (http://jelmin.com/?v3&v0=48&go=new+car&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044).......the Camaro. The announcement was
made in June of 1966.

Now.....you may be wondering why I'd start a Holiday (http://voxens.com/?v3&v0=48&go=holiday&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044) Letter with a quote
from Mr. Estes..........and it's really simple when you think about it.

You...and everyone else on this list.....are a Camaro/Firebird
Enthusiast.
Because of these cars, you've made friendships all over the continent.
During the Holiday (http://jelmin.com/?v3&v0=48&go=holiday&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044) Season, it's time for friends and family to get
together
and celebrate.

Further, while many people have been exceedingly upset since the cars
went
on "hiatus' in August of 2002, there is every reason to believe that the
future indeed looks bright.

After the first of January, I'll be sharing with you a web address where
you can watch the festivities from Detroit as a very exciting new Coupe
Concept is unveiled on the morning of January 9, 2006.

Perhaps this 'unveiling' is the Christmas Gift (http://voxens.com/?v3&v0=48&go=gift&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044) that many of you have
been
asking for!

As for the Holiday (http://jelmin.com/?v3&v0=48&go=holiday&url1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yenko.net%2Fubbthreads%2Fsho wflat.php%2FCat%2F0%2FNumber%2F178266%2Fan%2F0%2Fp age%2F0%2Fgonew%2F1#UNREAD&pin=14044) Season:

I know many of you will be travelling far and wide to be with family and
friends. It goes without saying (I hope) that you will wear your safety
belts while behind the wheel -- and that you will insist that everyone
in
the vehicle will be wearing them as well. And, if you enjoy a glass of
"Christmas Cheer" -- please, I beg you.....turn your keys over to a
friend.
We want you around for many more years.

Another year draws to a close.........and I'd like to thank you -- on
behalf of everyone at GM -- for your continued support and enthusiasm
for
our cars and trucks.

I personally thank you for your continued faith and support of the
Camaro
and Firebird Community.

May the new year hold for you and yours:

------------- great health, prosperity, happiness....and all that is
good.

Bitchin!

Between the new Mustang, the soon to come Challenger, and now the new Camaro(crossing fingers in hopes of) the streets will soon look like they did in 1970.

Yeah, I'll post the link when I get it. I've heard from a lot of other Camaro collectors that got this e-mail too so I think it's safe to say it was sent to a large list. In fact, I suspect they want us to post this stuff for marketing reason. probably not a bad move on their part.

I must say though, even though I'm a '70 z freak, if the new Challenger looks like the pics I've seen...WOW!!!! A 2007 model that looks eriely similar to the original, packing a Hemi and a pistol grip 4-speed!!! I'm thinking the Zee is gonna have to share the garage with a new friend pretty soon:).....Maybe they'll even offer it in Sublime Green or Panther Pink!!!

That's gonna be some auto show in Detroit this year. The big three need to get a little HP war starting. I just hope they can keep the price of going fast afforable enough to get insurance.

here is a photo that has leaked of the 2009 camaro. www.camaroz28.com was asked by chevrolet to pull their original photo, but it was too late. It was already plastered all over the net.

Yea the Challenger looks sweet. I think they went a little 'modern' on the body on the Camaro but still im a die-hard Chevy fan:grin: BTW i have a 83 Challenger  HaHa...

I like them both, but for different reasons. I also am looking forward to the GT500 mustang. Hopefully the insurance companies and EPA won't mess up a good thing and my future kids won't end up trying to hot rod 4 bangers

I like the challenger more. Judging from recent mopar interiors, I think itll be a cut above GMs. Howeve externally they both kick ass and are a much better rendition than Fords new mustang. I like the saleen mustang though... so so nice :crack:.

Any specs? What motor options are there going to be for the challenger and camaro? Im almost positive the motor out of the SRT-8 will be the challenger R/T, and Im hoping a tweaked LS6 makes it into the camaro SS. I just might have a car to trade my solara in for in a few years... I HATE fwd.

Good thread!

Maybe this trend will help revive dig racing. Supra FTL. :(

For what it's worth, I've pretty much confirmed that the pic on this thread of the new camaro is NOT accurate. I've been told that is a very old pic and that it in NO way resembles the actual car..I guess we'll find out Monday.

As for the Challenger, I understand that it is slated to have a 6 speed auto, but that a manual trans is being considered.

I still say Chevy better unleash a monster if they want my money because right now the Challenger is hands down the car on my list...Of course, my wife being the smart women she is, has already figured out that IF I get a '08 Challenger she's losing her parking spot because if I get an '08 I'm going to HAVE to get a '70 to go with it..3 car garage with my Z and 2 Challengers = no spot for momma.:violin:

Oh the joys of being married..They haven't even built the damn car and it's already causing me grief:headbang:

Edit: Now it all makes sense..Here's a video of the New Challenger with a story. The designer drives a '70 Camaro that he bought 21 years ago at age 17 for his daily driver..Now I can buy one and not feel like a traitor..:bigthumb:

it is about to be reveiled on monday but, here is a little more proof that pic is the actual concept. Here is a leaked Road&Track video. mms://c9o.earthcache.net/woc-01.med...1_camaro_hi.wmv

if link doesn't work here is the thread in the video post. http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/video-post/280751-2009-camaro-concept-video.html

yep..thats it I guess..:wtf: GM just doesn't get it..First the GTO and now this!!!..A Camaro, which IMO from what I've seen, that has nothing in common styling wise with the Camaro history whatsoever. I guess "retro" is a nasty word at GM or something..Oh well, at least Ford is going to make the Shelby and Chyrsler should kick ass I'd think with the Challenger. One of those will likely end up in my garage, but I won't be lining up to buy an '08 Camaro thats for sure.

More than likely theyll give us an astro van, give it a retractable hardtop and sell it as the camaro SSR
