Title says it all. I need a starter bike. Don't care if its been put down, don't care if its horrificly ugly, but I don't want to spend a lot of money. If you've got an old junker in your garage that runs like an old Civic (dependable, but not much to look at), I want it. All it has to do is run properly, not break down, and ride right (not be bent or something else seriously physically wrong with it). I need to get some riding time before I go attempt to get licensed and a lot more riding time before I buy the bike I want (a Harley Sportster or VRSC bike).

This bike more than likely WILL be put down, and I WON'T want to fix it, so durability is a plus here too. Post up whatchya got.

check out that yzf600 for 1500 if its still for sale.. that would be all you would need.. you can wreck it around and paint it and sell it to a buddy

You check the cycletrader for an old cruiser? If you're looking at getting on top of a Sporty of V-Rod, maybe you should get a little heavy bike experience. You can get old Honda and Suzuki twins pretty cheap.

I considered that, too. Everyone said those other bikes were great starter bikes, but I've been considering those others, too. I haven't checked those books yet, I'll check em out, though. Thanks.

Just plug in like 500-1500 in the price list and set the year from like 1980 to 1998. It'll weed out most of the dirt bikes and shit. Send me an IM via AIM if you wanna shoot shit about old cruisers. I'm pretty good about that shit.

Yup, I took a look at it, and I appriciate the link, but I'm looking for somethign more like Frankie said, ~1000-2000 price range. I don't want to spend 4k on a bike to beat the piss out of it, lay it down multiple times, and wreck it up.
