With that sub and size, I'd personally go with a sealed box.

I wouldnt do a ported box unless you have a hatchback. but a single 10 will offer nice crisp bass without weighing you down.

Kicker is good, but I'll never buy any gear from them again due to some bad experiences. I disagree about the MTX, but lets not get started about the Alpine vs MTX debate.

alpine is a great sub - there is only problem, it likes power - lots of it - to get the most of the driver be sure to put alot of power to it - then it really rocks-

^^ Agreed ^^ Give an alpine type r sub 300+ watts, and it'll get the job done.

I Would Use The Alpine Digital Mono Amp

^^ Yep, I'd go with the 1000 Watter. About $350ish new, 2 Ohms runs @ 1000 watts. (hint hint, you can always turn the gain down if needed)

I'm not a big Kicker fan. They're sloopy, and a bit unreliable.
If you're going with a Alpine sub, might as well go with an Alpine amp...any mono class putting out 250-500w rms should work well.

I didnt mean that kicker or mtx was the best.. I was just really unsatisfied with my 3 type R 10's i used to have... there amps, head units, tv's ect are fucking awesome though..

ever since alpine added the multi-roll surround to the type r i've liked it.
also i've taken more accurate and faster responding shits than most subs kicker has released. of course i never listen to any booming bass tracks, i'm a double bass man, so quick response/accuracy > spl.
and don't bother with alpine's amps. they may be the best you'll find at best buy or circuit city, but there's much better out there. their s/n ratio is borderline shitty. i assume that's a byproduct of trying to pack too much power into such small packages.

ok i descided im getting the type r 10" in sealed box actually already got it good deal i just need an amp and more help lol i build motors not stereo systems . i want to know if you buy a new head unit will that make a big difference in the stock speakers in the car or should i replace those also ? is it worth it?

depending on the ammount of speakers, but for example if you just buy a new h/u that is 51 max * 4 ull run about 17 rms to the speakers, and the speakers will be a little bit more clear depending on the distortion rate on the h.u, but if the speakers arnt bad dont replace them, thats my advice

im trying to keep weight down thats why the 1 10" but i still want the hard hitting bass and clarity . but i guess ill buy the head unit and give the speakers a try for a few weeks then see what i want to do.

I am with you, kicker is good for lil john and stuff, which alot of people listen to, therefore its a popular sub... personally im going with mtx (not the best, but with my discount, ill settle) due to the fact that it hits 20213023458 times better then the kicker, just less deep bass

Signal to Noise (S/N) : 90dBA
Which is for the same for the 1000 and 600 watt digital amps.

well it's still a shitty s/n ratio, whether at 600 or 1000 watts.

I pulled the 90 db SN from the Alpine website.
http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info?p_item_name=MRD-M1005&p_category=40&p_subcategory=105&p_main=10&p_more=y
and
http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info?p_item_name=MRD-M605&p_category=40&p_subcategory=140&p_main=10&p_more=y
respectively
I can only guess that they also UNDER rate their amps as well, simular to Xtant / PPI.

from everything i've ever seen about them the ratings are pretty dead on.

Low power best sounding sub I ever had was a Polk audio ex 10". The Polk momo's from what I've read and heard are just as good.

Any (any descent name brand) monoblock amp, spend a little extra and get a solobaric series.
