Production Class racer's go into the Prepared Catagory in Solo2. Likely you'd be in either D or E Prepared.

As long as it's can pass safety inspection, it's good to go.

That's funny. I think you can drive anything but a van or SUV as long as it clears the inspection.

Generally speaking that is about the extent of the limitations. It's actually based more on ride height than vehicle classification and can be subjective. Essentially if it makes me or my Safety Steward nervous, it ain't runnin. I've seen Porsche Cayennes, BMW X5s, Subaru Foresters, a GMC Typhoon and a Ford Lightning run at autocrosses. Typically you won't see anything 4WD (as distinguished from AWD). It'd be pretty rare to see a pickup truck that wasn't either designed with street performance in mind or modified for it.
A stock Forester is about as SUV as I'd want to allow at any of my events, even though when I owned one I felt reasonably confident that I could safely pilot a 4x4 Toyota 4Runner through the pylons. Ultimately it's about knowing the limits of yourself and your vehicle and your ability to test those limits without injuring either. I certainly wouldn't expect the SCCA or anyone else to insure me while testing the limits of a 4Runner at an autocross.
